The Birth of the Jordan 11
The Jordan 11 premiered in 1995 and was designed by Tinker Hatfield. Previous interviews explained that this was one of Hatfield’s favorite released designs. In addition to the materials used on the shoe that improved performance, his optimism in Jordan returning to the game proved true around the same time.
He’s Back
Back in 1994, Jordan decided to retire from playing for the Chicago Bulls and play baseball. At one point, Nike contemplated discontinuing the Jordan basketball sneaker line since he was no longer playing. However, Tinker Hatfield was hopeful. He continued designing sneakers as he awaited Jordan’s return.
After 17 months of retirement, Jordan returned to the Chicago Bulls. In 1995, he sent a simple fax with the words “I’m Back,” and the rest is history. Sources say he was insistent upon wearing the 11s on the court, even before they premiered.
Unique Design Elements of the Retro Jordan 11
The Jordan 11 was appealing because it combined style and performance. One element was the patent leather, which was used to make the sneaker more lightweight. Tinker Hatfield also added a fiber carbon spring plate that assists with support.
The ballistic mesh that covers the shoe was also added to increase the sneaker’s resilience during game play. In addition to visual appeal, it served the same purpose for sneakerheads looking for a lighter and more supportive shoe.
Pricey Fines
Remember when Jordan was fined for wearing the Jordan 1s? A similar situation happened with the court debut of the 11s. When Michael Jordan wore the Concord colorway during games, he was fined because they violated the NBA dress code again. Despite his punishment, he continued to wear them during the 1995 Eastern Conference Playoffs.
All About the Jordan 11 Gold and Black Heiress
These Black and Gold Jordan 11s were created with the feminine sneaker lover in mind. Created in 2017, the Heiress features details inspired by a fashionable little black dress. The upper sole and tongue of the Jordan 11 Gold and Black shoe consists of black suede. On the midsole, you’ll find metallic black accents holding onto the laces.
A little further down, notice the shimmery glitter-like pieces. They wrap around the mudguard of the shoe all the way around the heel. Underneath, there’s white paneling that extends from the toe cap and around the heel.
When you move onto the outer sole, you’ll find black rubber with a translucent effect. Gold appears on the Jumpman logo near the heel as well as on the lettering of the tongue. Jordan’s Chicago Bulls playing number, 23, is also embroidered in gold on the back of the sneaker.
