Jordan 1 History
Peter Moore designed the original Air Jordan 1 that was released in 1985. This shoe originally came in black and red, which caused some controversy because the NBA didn't allow this color scheme on shoes at the time. This controversy helped Nike and the Jordan 1s get some extra attention. The company made several models of the Jordan 1 in 1985, including one in white and Dark Powder Blue. This is the shoe that the modern Jordan 1 UNC is based on.
Air Jordan 1 UNC
Nike launched this retro shoe in 2015 as part of the Holiday 2015 retro pack. It has many classic elements to it, including a white Air Jordan Wings logo on the collar flap. It also has a Nike Air logo on the padded tongue tag. The heel is clean and free of any branding elements. Nike incorporated Carolina Blue leather into the Swoosh, heel, collar flaps, lateral flaps, and toe wrap. The rest of the upper is white leather, with the leather on the toe box being perforated. More white can be found on the midsole, and just under that is a Carolina Blue rubber outsole. This shade of blue is bright and vibrant. Nike officially uses the term Dark Powder Blue for this particular shade.
These Air Jordan 1 UNC shoes are significant because the University of North Carolina is where Michael Jordan flourished and became more of a household name. In March 1982, at the age of 19, he sunk a shot with 15 seconds left to secure a win against Georgetown in the NCAA Tournament championship game. Michael Jordan continued performing well the next two seasons, and he then left with one year of eligibility remaining to enter the NBA draft. He had a memorable career with the Bulls, and many people still remember his days wearing Carolina Blue very fondly. These high-top Jordan 1 UNCs pay homage to that history.
Jordan 1 University Blue

The Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG University Blue model has a very similar design to the Jordan 1 UNC, and it was released in 2021. It uses a lighter shade of blue that Nike calls University Blue. University Blue leather is found in select areas of the upper, just like the Carolina Blue is found on the Air Jordan 1 UNC. On the University Blue sneaker, the Swoosh, collar, laces, and tongue tag are all black. This adds a bit more contrast to the shoe. In addition, it has a black Jordan Wings logo instead of a white one.
