Updates to how you manage your financials

New managed payments features and global expansion.

Payments overview

New features when eBay manages your payments, and continued global expansion

With eBay managing your payments, buyers have more ways to pay with credit, debit and gift cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, and PayPal Credit. We continue to add more features to the new managed payments experience to help you manage your business and financials, including support for the Global Shipping Program, new options to schedule payouts, and more ways to pay for shipping labels. You can receive consolidated reports, one monthly bill for all fees, simplified seller protections, a single point of contact for customer support, and payouts directly deposited to your bank account.

New features for sellers for whom eBay manages payments:

  • 1099s. You can now download your Form 1099-K tax report directly from Seller Hub for transactions that occurred after eBay started managing your payments.
  • Scheduled payouts. With a new weekly deposits option, you can choose to configure your payouts to deposit weekly to your bank account, or continue with daily deposits, as funds are available. We consistently initiate payouts to the bank account on file within 2 business days of an order confirmation, regardless of how the buyer paid. You can change your payouts frequency in payout settings in the Payments tab in Seller Hub.
  • Global Shipping Program. Sellers for whom eBay manages payments will be able to ship internationally with our Global Shipping Program, which arranges international shipping, completes customs forms, and handles import fees paid by buyers at the time of purchase. This feature will become available in early spring.
  • New ways to pay for shipping labels. For domestic orders, you can continue to pay for your shipping labels using your PayPal account, or for sellers for whom eBay manages payments, you will be able to deduct shipping label costs from pending payouts. This feature will become available in early spring.

Managed payments continues to expand to additional markets

Last fall, we introduced these managed payments features:

  • New finance APIs to retrieve payouts and order information, with a new consent process to allow third-party apps to access APIs.
  • Enhanced payouts and transaction reports, with the ability to download and configure these on Seller Hub.

eBay currently manages payments in the US and Germany, and will manage payments for most sellers in 2020. We will continue to roll out the experience to more markets in the near future. Eventually, all sellers will be required to have eBay manage their payments in order to sell on eBay. As of January 2020, we have enabled over $2 billion of GMV and almost 25,000 sellers.

Sellers who are using eBay features and tools that are fully compatible with managed payments will be required to join in phases through this year. When we’re ready to support the features you use on eBay, you’ll receive a notification to register at your email address on file and in My Messages on your eBay account. Make sure you are signed up for emails from eBay.

You will be able to join in a few simple steps, by verifying your identity and business, agreeing to the Payments Terms of Use, and adding a checking account so you can get paid. Once enabled, your existing feedback profile and existing listings will be automatically updated, and will reflect the different ways buyers can pay for purchases from you. Sellers will also be able to immediately access all available features of the new payments experience as well as be opted into Seller Hub.

Managed payments gives buyers more ways to pay at checkout, including credit, debit, and gift cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, and PayPal Credit. Their experience will be similar to that of other online retailers. All payment options offered by eBay that are compatible with the buyer’s device or browser will automatically show up during checkout.

Sellers for whom eBay manages payments should not include text about payment methods in their item descriptions. All payment method preferences and references should be removed from listings. All payment options offered by eBay that are compatible with the buyer’s device or browser will automatically show up during checkout.

Most sellers can expect to see savings compared to their current payments processing fees. All sellers will also benefit from a consolidated billing structure and with more visibility into sales and payouts. With eBay managing your payments, you will pay payments processing fees only to eBay, and not separately to another processor.

Your funds will be deposited into the bank account you add to your eBay seller account. With payouts paid to your bank account, you no longer need to transfer funds from PayPal. We consistently initiate payouts to your bank account within 2 business days of an order confirmation, regardless of how the buyer paid. We aim to pay you as quickly as possible but are dependent on the credit card brands (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, etc.) and banks for payout processing and timely funds settlement.

You have the option to schedule weekly or daily payouts to your bank account, as funds are available. You can choose your payouts frequency in payout settings in the new Payments tab on Seller Hub.

The payouts section within the Payments tab provides an overview of the payouts you’ve received from us. You can see the total amount of each payout when we sent it to you, the account we sent it to, and how many transactions were included.
