Kiva is an international nonprofit, which crowdfunds microloans to entrepreneurs around the world. Since 2005, 1.7 million individual Kiva lenders have loaned over $1 billion to over 2 million small business owners, entrepreneurs, artisans and farmers, through Kiva's website.
The Kiva U.S. program empowers small business owners here in America and aims to reimagine a more connected financial system based on people. One example of this is the aspiration that Kiva lenders become customers and brand ambassadors of the entrepreneurs they are lending $25 to, which gave rise to this collaboration with eBay. In this way, Kiva U.S. aims to strengthen borrowers' social capital, as well as financial capital.
