This is a great western series. You get a... feel for what life was like in the early to mid 1800s. A good story about the life of a good christian woman and her effort to keep her family together. There is no cursing, no hot sex or anything to keep the whole family from reading and talking about this book series together. I read western books mostly and have read everything that Louis L'Amour has writtenas as well as william Johnstone and others and these books don't have all the fast action as some other writers but thay do have a lot of action with a lot of good people that love God and fellow man and try to do good to all. I am not a religious fsnataic but it is refreshing to read a good book without getting red in the face as you read. I would recommend these books to anyone
I didn't read the book.It ...was for my Mom.She's 85 in April. She loves to read and this was one of her favorites. This book came in a series of 3.The Eyes of Texas was another, can't remember the last.I bought these two books off of Ebay, due to the price of course. That and it was better than searching all over the internet for it.This book was a Hard Back while the other was soft cover. She liked the Hard back better. Why?Don't know.I didn't read it,but I think my Mom is a good judge saying it is a keeper. Gilbert Morris is a good historical writer with compe...lling characters. Second in the series about the early days of Texas and the frontier.

I liked the Christian emphasis with its clear message of sal...vation; its good morals, interesting & historical content.
