I bought this after reading Darwin Porter's tell-all ...biography, Jacko: His Rise and Fall. Never having seen a Michael Jackson video before, I was understandably curious, and since Porter told the story of how the video was put together as damage control following MJ's first trial and his crumbling marriage with Lisa Marie, it seemed like a good way to take a look. It was. Thriller, Billy Jean, Bad, Black or White, and Save the World are all there. What a collection! Thriller actually turned out to be a lot of fun, mostly because even Michael didn't seem to be taking himself too seriously back then. But starting especially with the nearly hysterical Bad, all he was able to do next was to repeat the same formula again and again. The formula is: ordinary Michael appears, ordinary Michael is transformed into something magical, magical Michael gyrates in front of a line of chorus boys, magical Michael turns back into ordinary Michael, and the world is supposed to be a better place. Sad, sad, sad! But fascinating!

I LOVE the Michael Jacks...on History video because it is an important part of the history of music videos; this DVD includes some of the first music videos recorded and one can appreciate the technological advancements we have made in today's world. This DVD is also symbolic of the ingenuity of Michael Jackson because one can see, in retrospect, how advanced he was. The younger generation will learn that many dances and songs they've heard are NOT NEW; they will learn that Michael Jackson was the ONE who started many fads and cliches. Additionally, this DVD is a reminder of a young man who was a musical genius although he was quite different from most musicians. Michael Jackson fans can see the changes in Michael from the way God made him (physically) to the way modern science changed him (aesthetically). I, personally, enjoyed Michael Jackson's singing from the time he began; he was only four years older than I am, so I remember watching the Jackson 5 on American Bandstand and listening to Rockin Robin and ABC in elementary school. These are some beautiful memories than watching this video brought back to me. It is also a way for me to remember one of my favorite music artists in my lifetime. Each song took me to a different time in my life; for example, one song reminded me of going to the Friday night after-football game dances in the early 80's. I must admit that there is NOTHING in this video that I did not like. I enjoyed EVERY SINGLE VIDEO, but that's just me. I highly recommend this DVD to all true music lovers and history buffs and, of course, all of Michael Jackson's fans. Anyone who truly appreciates the art of making music will HAVE to have this DVD Video collection. Finally, as a public school teacher, I believe that this DVD can be used to inspire students to dream BIG; they need to learn about the history of music as well as history of our nation. They need to be able to see the huge advancements in technology and be ready for their own future. Clearly, the Michael Jackson collection of videos, History, is a must-have for every United States citizen who appreciates music and wants to know more about the history of music videos. It is also a must have for ALL Michael Jackson fans worldwide. I know I will enjoy this DVD until the day I die. And I will always remember Michael Jackson, and I know that I was lucky by to live in the same time period that he did.

This DVD features Jackson's short films, an...d includes extensive at-the-shoot footage from "Black Or White," as well as 2 versions of "Heal the World" and the "Dangerous" tour highlights. Special features include Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound/PCM Stereo, English Subtitles, Discography, Instant Chapter Access and moving menus. After pioneering the epic music video with his ground breaking short movies for "Thriller," "Bad" (directed by the acclaimed feature auteur Michael Jackson,) and others, the King of Pop's next project was awaited with great expectations. And Jackson, as always, managed to meet these with his album, "Dangerous," for which he continued his pattern of making innovative, trend-setting videos. DANGEROUS is a home video which includes the uncut versions of these videos -- from the crazy morphing effects of "Black and White" to the exotic royalty of "Remember The Time." In addition, the previously unseen short film "Gone Too Soon" plus "Who Is It," which has never been released in the U.S., are included.
