These portable hard drives are small, light, run cool, transfer data at a rapid rate, and are inexpensive. However, they do not give the impression of being sturdy. The case is plastic, and nowhere in the literature for this drive did I find a mention of advanced safety features like shock mounting or drop sensing. To be fair, these are inexpensive drives, which may not have allowed for these features. I do not use them for portable drives. I replaced all my bulky desktop backup drives, which consume a fair amount of electricity and require a transformer to be plugged into an outlet, with these much smaller drives which do not require external power. For this purpose, these little drives are ideal.

I am already planning on buying another one.
As someone who uses a lot of external storage I've developed high standards but portability was never a need until the xbox one came into my life with it's ability to use a handful of games to eat up its own storage capacity like a glutton at an all you can eat buffet. Knowing Toshiba makes good quality products I picked this up and I am impressed. It is tiny, a little larger than a mans wallet. It fits easily in the palm of my hand. Once hooked up to my xbox I was able to sideload 300GB of game data to the portable HDD and clean out the Xbox storage in around 20 minutes manually moving them over 1 at a time. The largest file was almost 70GB and only took a couple of minutes to move. I'm sure because it's game data, the Xbox does more to check that the data is not corrupted during transfer than would happen on a desktop or laptop so I would expect faster performance when hooked up to a USB 3.0 port on either of those devices. Since this HDD spins at only 5400 rpm's there may be faster 1TB portable HDD's but the faster spin speed comes at a higher price for sure and the gains may only end up being marginal. This unit is small enough to fit in my pocket, it's well built, and it's fast enough to store the entire contents of a standard home desktop in just a few minutes. For less than $50 shipped to my door?... SOLD!Read full review
using couple months--just perfect--like my wife of 35 years
Lost left eye during glaucoma operation & right eye poor therefore lots & lots of audio books--Put em all on this drive & copy to a stick & use a stick MP3 player when I want to listen--Unit is fast & at a fair price. What more can a manufacturer give you. I really like the unit so bought a second one last week to copy & move my main hard drive stuff to new computer. These little units are handy-dare I say it again--Like my wife of 35 years. Be good-people.
Toshiba Canvio 1TB
Great little HD. Perfect for storing your data to take on the go. Don't have to worry about having access to the Cloud. It's really pretty small for a HD. Nice, It's not a SSD but it's as close as you'll get to one a fraction of the cost for this amount of storage. T. from Dayton, OH.
