Very good lens. Perfect performance/price balance...
Hi, I bought Tokina AT-X PRO AT-X 116 PRO DX, because of its focal range: 11-16 mm is a perfect complement to my kit lens 16-85 mm. This lens allows you to take pictures where you can not step back, eg small rooms, narrow alleyways, small squares etc. Fast aperture (f 2,8 ) is a welcome bonus. Lens is sharp, well balanced color reproduction and pretty moderate distorsion considering its focal range. It feels very solid, no looseness, fluid movement of both rings. Sharpening works well, both auto and manual mode. ( though sharpening is not an issue at this focal range). I'm happy with this lens.....
Excellent results for not too much money.
I bought this lens primarily for indoor shots of work completed (I'm a builder/decorator) but also for landscape photography. In both instances i've been very pleased with the results. A trip to the Lake District and clear weather gave excellent results from the top of Scaffel Pike using my Nikon D5100. The lack of auto focussing hasn't been a problem, it's easy to judge the range options on the lens. This lens was recommended to me by Adrian Oakes, a professional photographer who's landscape photography course was recently completed on Dartmoor. I have no regrets on listening to his advice. I have re-visited some clients to take up-dated pictures of bathrooms and a kitchen that my old lens didn't do justice. This lens has taken the pictures I was hoping for, capturing a larger area in small rooms. Without spending a lot more money I don't think I could have bought a better lens.Read full review
I am very pleased with the purchase made, and what you want!
I needed a wide angle lens for Nikon. Selected in terms of price / quality, focusing on the many reviews online (look for Ken Rockwell). In the end, stopped at the Tokina 11-16mm. Beautiful landscape photography opportunities in conjunction with the technical capabilities of the lens f2.8 and my camera D7000, were decisive in the choice of the lens. After a few test shots, I was impressed by the quality of optics and I think that money is spent, it is fully justified. If this lens is worth comparing with the similar, only with a Nikkor AF-S G DX IF-ED 12-24 mm F/4.0 or Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8 AF-S. But look at least at the price and you'll understand why I made that choice. ))
Best affordable ultra wide angle zoom lens.
This is an excellent lens: well-built, sharp, great value, and very very wide. In fact, make sure you understand how wide this lens is - it can surprise you. I have read plenty of reviews from established websites, but only when I bought it I fully realised what type of photography this lens is made for. Make sure you try it in a shop somewhere. However, if you know what you are looking for - narrow zoom range, high quality wide-angle lens - this is the best choice.
Good lens but has chromatic abberations.
A good lens gives acceptable image quality. Gives proper wide angle capabilities to a DX camera. Feels solid, and image taken with the lens have lots of detail and low distortion. The bad problem with this lens and it is really bad is chromatic abberation which cannot be fully resolved with raw tools. For the price is ok, but the nikon version does not have this issue.
