Truly an outstanding CD!! DeGarmo & Key were at the top of their game. While much of CCM music languished from a lack of physical talent, Eddie on the keyboard, and Dana on guitar could stand up to any secular musician in the business. Listen to the guitar on "Hanging by a Scarlet Thread" for a couple minutes and think of how many secular guitarists could play like that. Not very many! In fact you could count them on one hand and have a finger or two left over. I spent my twenties listening to Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Hendrix, etc.; and were DeGarmo & Key in the secular market; they would have been on the radio all the time. "To Extremes" was one of their harder edged albums; and as such did not "fit in" to the CCM scene as their earlier stuff did. But, being a baseball fan, this is how I place this album (as well as 4 other albums of theirs): DeGarmo & Key led the league in batting at .370, with the number two CCM group hitting .330 (Whiteheart and Petra get a tie).Read full review

This is a curious addition to a classic Christian rock duo. It has much disparity, 2-3 good songs and the rest are flops. Here they are trying to find their sound once again, trying to get their feet under them in a transient industry, trying to relate to a younger generation: all with very mixed reviews this time around. There aren't any teen rock anthems here as on previous releases. The lyrics can be somewhat trite and are full of ho-hum platitudes. This is a good ministry band but come across quite preachy here.
Friends, This 1994 CD is a Grammy nominee with 6 others and D&K had 17 Dove Award nominations too. This discontinued group is one of my favorite Christian musical powers. They present a gospel music and originality that's a picnic and shady rest to my soul. Billboard Magazine once raved that DeGarmo & Key’s albums contained "one of the most consistently inventive bodies of music in Christian music." I think I made my point. Sincerely, Eric
