I've heard a lot about this club but I didn't want to give up my forged Mizuno MX-23's. I decided to try them when I lost enough club head speed to use graphite senior shafts. Everything I heard about the AP1 712 is true. They're a players club for slower swing speeds...especially with the graphite Tour AD senior shafts.

I like the looks of the Titleist AP1 712 the best of all the AP1's. So far I am still getting use to the change from my other irons. I hit the W and PW real good and hope that the longer irons get honed in also. Long irons are not my favorite clubs to hit. The W and PW feel super when hitting those clubs. The future will tell the rest of the story.

I’m a huge fan of these clubs. They’re extremely forgiving and allow for you to feel that you’ve stricken the ball cleanly more often than not. From the wedge all the way to the 4 iron, the feel is excellent. They’re a classic (albeit older now) Titleist club that would make a great first set for someone trying to get into the game.

So far my experience has been good with these irons. I am a 15 handicap and an above average ball striker. Definitely game improvement irons geared towards the 8-16 handicapper. A little clunky looking but they have good feel. Mishits are not entirely dampened so you can still feel the mistake shots, which is very important for improving golfers. Forgiveness is very good, as even the shots off the toe or heel seem to retain good distance. The irons themselves scuff pretty easy, so make sure that you take good care of them and keep them clean.
First mistake high handicappers make is buying max game improvement clubs- first find out WHY your a high handicapper-mine is my short game but I hit good tee and iron shots, so for quit some time my game did not improve because of constantly trying out these max irons and staying away from "player" irons such as Titleist. BIG mistake - I was loosing distance and lost the ability to shape my game. I tried the AP1's and could not believe how easy and forgiving these irons were - I hit these better than the Diablo's , Cobra S3 and just recently the Ping K15. My handicap actually went up with those irons - now with the AP1's my handicap has gone back down to a 16 cause now I can work the ball - and I can see potential to drop even more. These irons work soo well for me , I have both the 710 and 712 model - and just to say - I can fell VERY little difference between the two. The 710's I keep in Canada for when I go on my vacations and the 712's I keep here in Hawaii for year round playing. I also compared these up against the Taylormade R11's, Callaway Razor and Mizuno JPX 800 Pro - Titleist was by far the better ones for me. So just cause your a high handicapper does not mean to stay away from these clubs - FIRST find out WHY your a high handicapper (putting, driver, fairway, short game or bunkers - yes bunkers! Just think - if you get into just 3 bunkers a round and take 2 shots too get out, and thats without getting on the green - you just increased you handicap by a average of 6). For the first time in maybe 5 years these irons are definitely making me enjoy golf all over again. No more max improvement irons for me.Read full review
