First saw this on my local Public Television station and was stunned to find most of my favorite music from the 60's and 70's was performed by a core group of studio musicians known as The Wrecking Crew. Here is the promo blurb: Music lovers will be astonished at the influence The Wrecking Crew wielded over rock and pop music in the 1960s and early 1970s. These unsung instrumentalists were the de-facto backing band on hit records by The Beach Boys, Phil Spector, Frank Sinatra, Nancy Sinatra, Sonny & Cher, Elvis, The Monkees and many more. These dedicated musicians brought the flair and musicianship that made the American West Coast Sound a dominant cultural force around the world. Stylishly directed by Denny Tedesco, this does a great job of honoring his father Tommy Tedesco and the rest of the crew that was on just about every major hit of the era. Excellent production values, superb audio (make sure you listen in 5.1), and directed with a lot of heart. Make sure you get the 2-disk version for all the bonus content. The best money you even spent on a DVD. Do not miss this.Read full review

Complete detailed musical history of the iconic west coast studio musicians who backed the Beach Boys, they were the Monkees, Byrds, Sonny and Cher, Frank and Nancy Sinatra, Turtles and many, many more. With musicians such as Glen Campbell on guitar, Carol Kaye on bass, Hal Blaine and Earl Palmer on drums, Plaus Johnson on sax, Tommy Tedesco on guitar and more in a tight, small core of musicians whose names never appeared on albums and represented the best of music out of the California studio scene. So many musical memories and histories makes this video fly by and gives you an insight never before documented on film as this is. Bottom line, this is a must see if you are into any music, especially of the 60's. The bonus CD is worth the price alone. Roland Via

This is an absolute must for musicians and fans of any era of music. No one really knew these fantastic musicians were backing all the great songs in the 60s until it was revealed, years later. Many very excellent musicians went on to become stars on their own after they left this group, but most impressive, IMHO, was Leon Russell - The Master Of Space And Time.

When you want to find out about the Hollywood recording scene, during Rock Music's growth years (late 50's - 70's) this is the documentary to get. Learned more than I expected about the background of the session players used on many of the hits of the era. These professional musicians were super talented and knew their role in the formulation of the music. Most worthy of being in my library of Music-Related DVD's.

"The Wrecking Crew" is a movie that explains quite a bit about the background of many of our favorite musical artists, but the thrust of it is the interviews with a selected group of studio musicians, who played on untold numbers of recordings. While it is wonderful to hear & see these characters, and fascinating to watch this DVD, I wanted to hear more of their stories. ...that is a good thing. If you are a lover of music, from the Nineteen-fifties, through the Ninineteen-eighties, then you will really like this movie.
