I have a strong back ground in Sle...ep Disorders, so I can't speak about how informative this book is. The major contribution of this book to me is making me face the word INSOMNIA without being terrified. This book some how calmed me down about insomnia and helped me face it. I don't think that I will follow their recommendations and advice verbatim, but I know that insomnia is a transitional thing that if you face it and accept it it will go away. Some of the information in this book is common knowledge, but you just never think about it amidst your scattered thoughts and fatigue due to your insomnia (example: if you nap during the day you might have a hard time sleeping at night and more) If you are purchasing this book with high hopes and expectations that your insomnia will dissipate overnight then you will be disappointed. Read it without any expectations as the information is good and the book overall is well written.
I'm lucky in that I have only experienced insom...nia after a traumatic event. However this book covers many causes of insomnia and helps you to get to the root of your problems. It does not offer a quick and dirty solution - most people have tried those and would not still be looking for answers if they actually worked. I did not even have to read the entire book to get back in the sleep pattern, but I'm hanging on to this book!!
