of all purchases they ask for this one. this book points out that there were more pyramids than one might think, about 36 in all but many were built of adobe and crumbled away as each 1000 years ticked by. it doesn't explain why they built them (there had to be at least a passing motivation) nor how they could feed the workers or even find them in that desert setting. you have to wonder. nor does it say why the pharaohs were so obsessed with their burial plans. generally people don't give that much thought. it says they used ramps to get the stones to each layer, but the ramps themselves would have been huge projects. if you think about it hauling 2.5 ton stones (lots of them) would require a very long low angle. and why aren't there big holes in egypt where they cut these stones out? many mysteries that the scholars don't seem to answer. of interest is that at the base of each pyramid there was a temple complex of very intricate design, with all kinds of chambers, caches, atriums and ritual rooms. also the tomb drawings only show couples, not pairs for you g/m fans. sorry. the pyramid era was over by the time moses led the israelites out at the time of pharaoh merneptah at about 1200 bc. this was 1300 years after the great pyramid at giza was built. if you subtract 1300 from 2013 you get 713 ad, right when the moslems were conquering spain (of course) and when charles martel began his rule of the precursor of france.Read full review
The graphics and detailed architectural drawings, make the words more real. You can see scale and distance. You can imagine yourself walking around the Giza plateau.
