"Movie synopsis In THE BIRDS, Alfred Hitchcock's heart-pounding follow-up to PSYCHO, the director couples a tone of rigorous morality with dark humor to create a thriller that begins as a light comedy and ends as an apocalyptic allegory. Tippi Hedren (Melanie Griffith's mother) carries the picture in her first film role ever, embarking on a career as an icy-cool leading lady. Loosely based on a Daphne du Maurier story and a Santa Monica newspaper account, "Seabird Invasion Hits Coastal Homes," THE BIRDS also features groundbreaking special effects that, in 1963, surprised and delighted audiences. Wealthy reformed party girl Melanie Daniels (Hedren) enjoys a brief flirtation with lawyer Mitch Brenner (Rod Taylor) in a San Francisco pet shop and decides to follow him to his Bodega Bay home. Bearing a gift of two lovebirds, Melanie quickly strikes up a romance with Mitch while contending with his possessive mother and boarding at his ex-girlfriend's house. One day, during a birthday party for Mitch's younger sister, a flock of birds attacks the children in what seems to be a random incident. In fact, it signals the beginning of a massive avian assault on the residents of the town--a mysterious assault that no one can explain...and from which no one may come out alive." To me this is the Best Hitchcock Film! Just love Tippi Hedren and the effects for that time was really ahead of it's time. I remembering seeing this for the first time on Television when I was a child. I was 6 years old. The film was already 12 years old but it really scared me and I was even scared of birds for a while. But got over that and still love watching this film. ~~Enjoy~!!!!!!Read full review

Spoiled socialite and notorious practical joker Melanie Daniels is shopping in a San Francisco pet store when she meets Mitch Brenner. Mitch is looking to buy a pair of love birds for his young sister's birthday; he recognizes Melanie but pretends to mistake her for an assistant. She decides to get her own back by buying the birds and driving up to the quiet coastal town of Bodega Bay, where Mitch spends his weekends with his sister and mother. Shortly after she arrives, Melanie is attacked by a gull, but this is just the start of a series of attacks by an increasing number of birds. Hitchcock has made many great movies, and this certainly stands up as one of them. Here, Hitchcock gives a lesson in film directing and creates a truly masterpiece of work in the process. A highly innovative horror.Read full review
I am actually watching this film for the hundredth time right now. I just get a kick out of Tippi Hedren on the phone with her dad right after she (and the schoolkids) had been attacked by the birds. And she goes "why dad I am not being hysterical, it really happened" and she is just so cool and collected I think she was on Prozac! I don't know about you but I would be pretty hysterical (or at least show SOME sort of emotion) after being chased by hundreds of birds intent on pecking me to death. Hitchcock's masterpiece - then again aren't most of his films masterpieces? - about birds gone psycho. The small town of Bodega Bay will never be the same. The effects are pretty bad by today's standards but this is still a really good movie. Ok, having said that - I just have to laugh at the guy standing at the gas station. A woman has just been attacked by a couple of birds and she drops the gas hose so there is gas all over the ground. Nobody seems to notice except the crowd in the diner. So the guy at the station decides to light up, but he hears people calling him so he looks around and the match burns his fingers - wooossshhh! he is up in flames. Sorry but did he not see the gas on the ground creating a puddle at his feet, did he not smell it or think that lighting a cigarette at a gas station was a bad idea? Did he not notice the birds attacking people? Highly recommended! If it is your first time watching it, it is a good movie with some tense moments. If you have seen it before watch for the funny things that happen that you did not notice before.Read full review
