Finding these tur...ntables in good shape is not easy. The SL 1200 is really one of the best ever made. They are super quiet. The base is strong and solid. Tone arm compares to among the very best out there. There are a lot of fad designer tables but to me none have the design and performance of the Technics. They weren't cheap when in production and finding one now is not an easy task. I used this turntable in radio and it was a huge improvement from the old "trucks" we had such as the Russco "Cue Master" which was junk in my opinion and the QRK, only a little better. Both were very noisy rum drives and Russco banged when you powered it on. That loud thump always came over the air so you had to switch that channel right too programme once the table started or slip cue the record. The Technics SL 1200 series was such a dramatic improvement over the ancient tech. Like some of the other great audio accessories I worked with on the air, I finally found one that I liked and it was in fantastic shape. Like new condition. It's a keeper. I would never pay thousands for tables that may or may not be better. This one is good to my vinyl and plays very nicely. A good cartridge is a must of course. I put in an old Signet which I had floating around. I also like the high line Shures, Stantons (I have an 88 1S) and some of the others if you can find them. Vinyl is too much fun and has a sound all its own. This is the turntable for it. Great find!

Dollar for dollar best value in turntables out there. O...ne in good condition will last practically forever and provide a consistent base for listening enjoyment. Will you get more out of a high end turntable? Maybe. But this turntable with a good quality cartridge and stylus will provide the owner with as good a listening experience as 99% of all listeners will ever want.

I've had my silver 1200MK2 now for several years and althou...gh it's not played much, I can honestly say it's one of the best tables out there for vinyl. I saw my first one back in 1980 and just fell in love with the looks and style. There's a reason most DJ's use these. If properly set up, with a good stylus and maintained, it will go head to head with the ones costing thousands. Finding a good used one that isn't beat up can be somewhat hard but they are out there.
