"Summer's End" is a wonderful novel about the ...disillusionments that can come with being a spouse or a parent, the things in life that matter, and the courage necessary to follow one's dream. Deanna, the heroine of Summer's End,has wealth and status, but she is unappreciated and ignored by her family, and she has put her dream of being an artist on hold. For 17 years, she has tried to be a "good wife" by ignoring her own interests and catering to her family. Steel explores the things that really matter in relationships, not wealth or material possessions, but spending time together, sharing interests, doing chores together, being kind to one another, and having a common goal. The 1979 edition I purchased has a beautiful cover and is in excellent condition. This book also introduced me to the work of American Artist Andrew Wyeth.
