I took a chance on this one, becaus...e I was intrigued by the few scences I had seen and was impressed with the visual quality of the production. This became my favorite non-Hayao Miyazaki anime...ever. Based in the "steampunk" genre, circa late 1800's Japan, this hard science ficiton story features fantastic animation with super detail and is sure to impress even non anime or Sci-Fi fans. The crispness and quailty of the animation, with the shadowing and colors add to the foreboding feeling that the movie conveys. The voice actors are a who's who gallery, featuring (in the English version) Patrick Stewart (Star Trek: TNG, X-Men), Anna Paquin (Rogue in X-Men), Kari Wahlgren (Saya from Blood+, Anemone from Eureka 7, Haruko Haruhara from FLCL and dozens more), Alfredo Molina (Dr. Octopus in Spiderman 2), and other fantastic voiceover actors from anime and video games. It also helps that this movie was directed & co-written by none other than Katsuhiro Otomo, the man behind Akira. The producers spent several years making this film, with a enormous amount of CGI and animated cells. This all comes becomes very evident with the high quality final product. As for the story, the plot is very interesting with plenty of action, twists, and human interest to keep you entertained. The "steampunk" genre is a genre where almost all mechanical items are steam powered. Yes, this movie features mecha, but it is not the main feature, nor is it traditional. If you like Sakura Wars, this is a must have, and vice versa, but most anyone should enjoy this!
WOW! This a great anime movie. Directed by ...the director of Akira, it is set in an alternative Victorian England, where steam is the new nuclear power of the day. A young boy genius who specializes in steam driven mechanical wonders, finds himself embroiled in an arms race between a huge conglomerate and the British Empire. The war machines are fascinating, even though used for evil, and the boy/hero's adventures are heroic. It is expertly dubbed in English and has action every moment. The animation is superb. Enjoy yourself!
This i...s an excellent movie. An interesting feature of the movie is that science can be powerful, good, bad, destructive and overwhelming. There is no clear right or wrong. The main character and the viewer are left to puzzle out who is right and who is wrong. For the guys, lots of action, lots of explosions, lots of chase scenes. The artwork is great, very detailed.
It's a great watch. Good story and amazing ani...mation. Character designs and backgrounds are cool as he. I don't see why people didn't like it.

One of the BEST Anime that I have ever seen. A tip o...f the hat to the Steampunk genre, taking place in 1886 London, the story revolves around Ray, a young inventor, and his struggle to stop the O'hara Foundation from making his Grandfather's, and his Father's inventions, and using them as weapons of war. Beautifully done animation from the makers of Akira. A+
