Under-valued in my opinion
I have not had the MZC-66, but have installed and owned several MZC-88's, which uses basically the same guts with a pair of tuners added and two more zones. These units run forever as long as you run surge, but better yet UPS. They also need cooling fans added to the older ones which were built without. The Class D amps (overheating caps) poop out after long periods of heat. If you buy it, and it doesn't have a fan, go buy one, build a box for it over the top of the unit, and just let it run. Also, the key to making one work is you need proprietary "EZ-Tools" to program it. You also need the cable and adapters to connect to the unit, and some skill in setting up the system/wiring/yada yada. If you have access to all this, I recommend the system as still a pretty powerful development platform for audio, IR, RS232, etc. You can still integrate these fairly well with economical HDMI distribution boxes too, for a whole house AV solution.Read full review

Cut your loses and just walk away from this POS.
Beware, I have owned two of these brand new from factory. Both stopped working approx. 3 years after being put into use. Both units failed, not the amp sections, they seem to be good, but the logic bd that controls the unit are either bad design or are very sensitive to voltage swings. Second unit I added a $100 surge protector but it stopped working after a couple years. You can buy a refurb. unit from SpeakerCraft to replace a defective one ($600.00) but there is no fixing dead units. SpeakerCraft has also discontinued this unit so how long they will offer refurb. unit is questionable. The refurb. unit was a brand new inbox unit, not refurb. Niles Audio made a competitive unit 4630, four source x six zones. They seem to be rock solid, but their keypads have an issue with not working with age and use. They have also discontinued this unit and although you can find them used for $300 on Ebay like I did, but keypads are $150 used and are nor very plentiful. Sorry to be so long winded but had I not been in the business and know the history of both units I would have been clueless. I do have 6 pr of SpeakerCraft in-ceiling spk. installed in 2006 with original MZC-66 and they have functioned flawlessly and still to in 2013.Read full review
Awesome units, so under rated!!!
I have 4 units running for 8 plus years and my neighbors also have units that still work,. Yes, make sure you properly cool the unit and a power conditioner if you have dirty power or live in the mid-west were you have lots of lightning storms and it will run like a tank. If you have a zone go out you can always purchase new AMP CARDS from EBAY. Before BUYING your new AMP CARD make sure you buy the correct one via serial number on your unit, also before you install it make sure the speaker is good that it was hooked up to. The things that take out AMP CARDS are HEAT, SHORTED SPEAKER WIRE or a bad SPEAKER. Clean sounding and you have lots of options with these units. You can also control it with your IPHONE if you can find a ERS-1.0 kit. Not sure why the company stopped making these but its sister company " PROFICIENT" came out with like units M4 and M6 that use the same keypads and accessories.Read full review

Fantastic. love it
I know this is not current tech, but it's still very good. I wanted wall controls and volume knobs, and I have those in my house. I stream from Airplay devices to two Apple TVs (just for audio) which essentially makes it mobile controlled as well. So far so good.

Power Supply Board
I was able to repair a piece of equipment that hasn't worked in a years by removing the old board and soldering the new one into the existing wiring. I was nervous to try it and wasn't sure how much skill it would take but it worked beautifully. It kept me from buying the whole unit again and saved me a few hundred $.
