The 70400G2 for Sony A mount is a lightweight and incredibly sharp lens throughout the range. I have used this on a Sony A7R2 and A6300 with the LAE3 adapter. It did however tend to 'hunt' a bit with the A6300 shooting in continuous AF and wide selection while shooting sports events, specifically soccer. Images are crisp, clear and colors are spot on. This is a great addition to anyone's bag imho. Considering what the other A mount lenses currently cost and their range this particular lens delivers both a cost savings and a large range of focus.

I love the sharpness of the lens. When zoomed out, the barrel wiggles back and forth a very little bit. An earlier version of this lens I had did not wiggle. I hope something inside is not going to fall apart. The slide switch on the side of the lens, to select between manual and autofocus is very stiff, difficult to push. But, these are pretty minor complaints. I am getting good pictures and having a lot of fun with the lens!

This was my first professional "white" lens purchase. The original cost of this lens has always been above my comfort zone so I put this purchase off for far too long. Nowadays, as Sony has moved to the E-mount cameras and lenses, A-mount equipment across the board has dropped in price and many items considered outside my purchase range are now within. Such is the case with the Sony 70-400 SSMII lens. Crisp and clear with great contrast across most of the range. I've found it a little soft at 400mm but nothing to really complain about. Truly a great lens and one that I hope to use more especially for nature photography. The one thing that you must be aware of is the weight of this lens. It isn't something you'd want to haul around all day in the wilds as your arms will tire quickly. Use of a mono or tripod greatly adds to the usability especially at long telephoto distances. This lens original cost exceeded $2,000 but can be had in the $800 range if you are diligent. Read full review

excellent value, extremely fast AF, even in less than perfect light, can be used hand held, very sharp, removable tripod collar is a plus for travel. AF works when mounted on A7RII using Sony adapter. note: hood is great but bulky, when using without hood resistance to flare is excellent so i leave hood at home. compared to Tamron 150-600 - smaller, lighter and sharpness is such that cropping to 600mm shows no degradation of image.

Fast, quiet, pin sharp, easy to use and in the best traditions of the famous AF G series. (both minolta and sony) And it works very well on an A7R II with a TC 2.0 on the LA-EA4.
