I have been buying these for years. I use them to archive old radio shows so I am not putting a great deal of demand on them. The newer models like this one are a crap shot. Some work and some do not. As they get newer the dependability suffers like everything else. When they were made in Japan years ago they were almost bulletproof. But as time moved on the quality control suffered. These newer models have some nice features and are more user friendly, but one out of ten do not work properly and are DOA.The most annoying thing about them is every so often you have to take a pin and find the tinny reset hole on the back and reset them. Some times this whole process takes five minutes. The sound quality is relative on the earphones---nothing more. I do not listen to MP3 music so I cannot comment on the music quality but for my old radio shows the quality with the right ear phones is acceptable---but not dynamic. I never use them without being plugged in so I can's comment on the battery life. I believe they are way over priced for the quality of the unit so I usually buy them used for reberb since those seem to have been tested and used for awhile and they tend to work better. If you get them at the right price and know their limitations, you will be happy with one. But trash the earphones that come with them immediately and buy higher quality earbuds and the sound will be acceptable.Read full review

I had an older model for about the same price. I like this one with the volume button being separate and on the side along with the hold button versus my old one it was all on the same dial and option button. At first this newer model annoyed me because of the shuffle. It shuffled the same 50 or more songs every time you turn it on despite having 1200+ songs loaded into it. I updated the firmware and the shuffle works way better. I recommend to anyone whose getting one of these to update the firmware immediately.

Owned one of the original one made years ago. This one is plastic, a bit cheaper made but just as easy and functional as the orig. Update; 08MAR18: MP3 player not recognized by computer now. I loaded 1400+ songs on it and now I will have to start from new (what a major pain!). Player is not recognized by any computer now so I need a reboot. Hopefully this works. Till later...April 2018, reboot didn't work. Went thru a lengthy process (Sony issue) to get new player (warranty replacement). Received and it works as did the original one....we'll see though. Update; 27JUL18: This player is working exactly as it should. Long battery life and just as functional as the original one I had years ago. Easy drag and drop files. Bravo Sony. Update: 23SEP20 Still working as described.

This is my second Sony mp3 player. The other one got ruined in the laundry! It is by far the nicest little player to carry around without accessing my phone for music and audio books. Small, easy to use, long battery life.

For such a small device it has great sound. The on off is a little difficult to use.
