Konami's celebrated survival horror series known for its surreal atmosphere and supernatural enemies makes its debut appearance on the PlayStation 3 in Silent Hill: Homecoming. Players assume the role of Alex Shepherd, a soldier recently discharged from a military hospital who returns to his home town only to find his brother and father missing, and his mother catatonic. The story takes players from Shepherd's deserted hometown, where citizens go missing every day and strange creatures have begun to roam the vacant streets, all the way to the notoriously fog-laden city of Silent Hill on a quest to save his loved ones.
As in previous games in the series, the streets and buildings of Silent Hill are filled with bizarre and aggressive creatures, but unlike the civilian protagonists in those games, Shepherd actually has military training and is thus quite handy with both firearms and close-quarters combat. The action is frequently interrupted by puzzles of varying difficulty that often require graphic-adventure-style exploration and discovery. Players are given a journal to help keep track of any written and visual clues they may encounter during these sojourns, a feature designed to help gamers make sense of Silent Hill's trademark transitions between the real world and its darker alternate dimensions.

Not the best in the silent Hill series that will always be...long to the first 2 in my opinion..but still a pretty good and eerie game that any survival horror fan should try..highly underrated silent hill game too it seems after the 3rd one every SH game got mixed reactions."but its still a great creepy game but not as good as silent hill 1 or 2
If you've played other Silent Hill games in the past it mi...ght be a bit different than your used to. The game adds a little more action and not as much as an engaging storyline as others. The graphics are very nice though and controls are pretty good. It has a nice feel to it but seems to lack something that made other Silent Hill's in the past special. Perhaps it's due to the fact that it was a different team that developed this one that made it a bit different.
All in all if you're a hardcore Silent Hill or even just a horror game fan I'm sure you will definately enjoy the game no matter what, seeing as there are so few horror games that are out in the current gen market. If your new to Silent Hill you might want to pick up a previous one like part 2 or 3 to get a good feel of what Silent Hill really is.
I love silent hill games they are creepy and tend to ...have a plot line that drags you in. You get scared but you continue to play because you need to know why and what's going on. This game is not as good as the others but it's still has the plot that pulls you in. The lighting in the game is too dark though. In some areas you can turn the lighting all the way up and still not see anything which is kind of hinders the game play. Besides that it's still a great play.
Double Helix destroyed it, but it's still playable
The new Silent Hill ...brings many changes, some good but most bad, to the series. I first want to say that the new development company has done a horrible job at keeping up with Team Silent (previous developer). Some of the things I liked about the game are the fact that the story-line is OK, the monsters are sweet (but difficult, I'll get to that in a minute,) the graphics are excellent and the characters are very creative. I recommend it to survival horror fans, but I do NOT recommend it to major Silent Hill fans looking for another great Silent Hill game. The only way that I can see someone enjoying this game is if they didn't like the previous titles because this game feels nothing like them at all. In fact, the game is absolutely horrible when compared to previous. Right now I'm going to tell you exactly why it is so bad and why Double Helix should be shut down for turning the greatest video game franchise of all time into a low budget pile of junk:
1. DEAD MONSTERS DISAPPEAR - If your a major Silent hill fan like me, you've probably noticed that in all of the previous titles, when you kill a creature it's dead body stays in the spot you killed it in, even when you leave the room. They do not disappear. This adds a major level of realism to the game, but sadly this new title completely removes it. Now, bodies disappear within seconds of being killed. This was a major major disappointment to me, MAJOR.
2. NO EASY MODE - Another great thing about Silent Hill in the past was that all of the games (with the exception of 0rigins) had an easy mode. And not only was there an easy mode, the easy mode was actually easy, unlike in Resident Evil where the easy mode is still pretty difficult. Well, this new game has no easy mode, just Normal and Professional and the Normal mode is VERY DIFFICULT. Health items are very hard to find and through most of the game you will be using a very small selection of melee weapons and not guns because there are also very limited bullets. I had never in my life had so much difficulty in a Silent Hill game, VERY DISAPPOINTED, but I did finally beat the game.
3. VERY SMALL AMOUNT OF WEAPONS - Silent Hill 4 gave us tons of awesome melee weapons, from golf clubs to torches you could light to small axes, they were literally sweet as anyone could imagine and 0rigins gave us cool things like TV's and toasters and way more. Well, Double Helix managed to screw that up too. This new title has a VERY SMALL selection of weapons, even smaller when it comes to melee weapons, though the ol' steel pipe and knife are there. When you bump into objects they move in this game, it would have been really nice if you could pick up objects and throw them at monsters but nope, you cant.
4. YOU CAN TELL ITS LOW BUDGET - Just by playing it you can tell it's very low budget and does not even try to keep up with the level of excellence offered in previous titles. After you play this game you will seriously think that the developers have never touched a Silent Hill game in their lives. The controls are clunky, some of the areas do not match what was shown in previous games, the flashlight is horrible, it is pretty short (even shorter then previous titles) and it just overall does not feel like Silent Hill.
In the future, if Double Helix develops another Silent Hill game, I will think twice before buying it. If your a Silent Hill fan, you may want to RENT this game, not buy it. Trust me, its not worth it.
Alright, Silent Hill continues his legacy with a very good ...survivor horror. This time, Alex Shepperd is trapped in this new nightmare, looking for his brother, Josh. The combat gets back with a new aiming system. You have to choose the right moment to turn on you flashlight (monster are atracted to it). But I think the best thing in this game is the story. You'll meet family shepperd, and find out Alex's feelings about his parents and his brother. To forgive or get revenge are the main options in this game. Of course, if you survive it. While games like Resident Evil gone to action, Silent Hill still tracking the Survival (and psychological) horror. Sometimes the best option is to run and try to avoid combat. The puzzles are still there, playing around with Alex's mind. Silent Hill Homecoming also have multiple endings (as always). I sugest you to do your ending without looking for the others. After doing that, you can look on the web and find out what you can do to switch Alex's story. There are key moments in the game you should save your progress on a different file. Of course, I won't tell you when. Just do it when you think it's best. Good luck and nice nightmares!
