Rise of a Merchant Prince by Raymond E.Feist is the secon...d book in his Serpentwar saga. This saga takes place in the world of Midkemia which is the acclaimed world of R.E.Fs first book, magician which is notably his most popular and most extravagent book. This lovely edition of the book makes reading more pleasurable as hardcover is never comparable to softcover as it removes any element of authenticity and genuinity. Hardcover also in a sense, protects the book, allowing pages to recover and be flattened once closed after reading, leaving the book in mint condition, whereas a softcover is profoundly useless as it can bend as easily as the inside pages, causing wear and tear to be common and the destroying of the book quick. This book is an excellent read in my opinion as sagas provide an ongoing read with detailed analysis of characters, scenery and the world within the book which is all at the authors discretion and his ability to create such imaginitive and creative pieces like Rise of a Merchant Prince. The skill of the author is evident throughout the saga and namely throughout this book as Roo, one of the protagonists, is built up and conveyed in ways which allow the audience (being myself) to connect and feel for him and grasp anxiously each and every moment of his perilous journey. I reccommend the reading of Shadow of a Dark Queen, the first book in the serpentwar saga, which will enravel and encompass you with it's intrigue, causing you to come across this book and continue reading until the 4th and last book, Shards of a Broken Crown. Following such characters through 4 books is a story hard to create while keeping audience interested and intrigued all along the way. But R.E.F has done this without difficulty as it flows undeniably like the rough wild currents of the ocean. This book is a MUST read if you're a fan of adventure/fantasy books and even more so if you LOVED the Magician, a book i reccommend more so than than any other book.
This book was awesome. I flew threw it in one day... because I couldn't put it down. If you are new to Raymond Feist. I highly recommend starting with the book "THE MAGICIAN" which starts the "Rift war series". Then move on from there to "Empire Trilogy", "Krondor's Sons series" and then the "Serpant war Saga" which includes this book! I had gotten bored with my usual James Patterson, Patricia Cornwell and I'm very glad to have found something different and in my opinion better!!
