Seagate 7200 Momentus Series is definitely up to the challenge!!!
Pros: Very quick & quiet drive; BIG difference in comparison to the 5400 Seagate series!...almost noiseless data transfer when doing low-level to fresh OS install, very quick to respond & switch gears (read vs. write!)... NOTE: This applies to BOTH the 7200.1 IDE & 7200.2 SATA Momentus series as well, the SATA version is much quieter & quite a bit faster on data transfers though...actually got one of each @ the same time, & i was only offered review on the IDE though, not both? Would say (SATA) was very much on par w/ WD Scorpio Black 7200, and thats saying alot!...im VERY difficult to sway on WD, have tested & been a diehard WD guy for over 10yrs running, & they have a-l-w-a-y-s outperformed the competition in every which way you wanna slice it!... Cons: Honestly, none of any real consequence that i can see...the drive got a little warmer than usual on a l-level format, but cooled off when completed & spun down a few minutes...also, occasionally has that 'oldskool' spin-up 'click, pop' that all the hd's used to do when starting up from 'sleep', but its not as loud & not as pronounced as those old drives, by far, so not really an issue, just something i noticed?... Its honestly a sweet drive, right up there w/ WD (if you havent already xperienced the WD performance curve!)...my notebook is an HP elite, which ships w/ (no doubt!) top-of-the-line stuff...WD Scorpio Black...and this Seagate 7200.2 Momentus series performs right in line, no hiccupps @ all, and i am quite impressed w/ it!...i will now consider the Seagate's as well as the WD from this point forward because of this review & 'newfound confidence' in their products, as i have looked over them many times in the past!... Fantastic upgrade to an aging laptop!
I was looking for an upgraded HD to my Dell C640. Got this based on searching online, heard this was good for my model. And it is. Gives me much more space to save, everything runs faster, its just been a huge upgrade to an aging laptop. I recommend this! Other reviews are much more technical, but from one person with some (limited) computer experience to another (potentially) This works great.

Dastest Ide Drive on the Market@ 7200RPM
Their is a 4200 then their is a 5400 and then their is the fastest Drive@7200RPM. The best drive to have plain and simple in a older IDE notebook. Where the processor and memory may not be up to par as their newer counterparts, the 7200RPM Hard is doing its part to keep you up and running with applications turning quickly. No Matter what Manufacture you chose, the Best and most practical solution for jazzing up the old notebook is a Good Fast Hard Drive. Not suprised the newer SATA drives also Come with a 72,000rpm Punch. The next step is 10,000RPM to speed up the slow notebooks New and Old. Keeping the New Windows 7 running at a speed the operator can happly live with. Laptop or Desktop the faster the Better!

7200 hard drive performance
As described in the auction, the 7200 RPM ATA drives are indeed rare. I wanted such a drive because they make significant improvement in the opeartion of my laptop. I did not have any specific software to make a precise test and comparison, however the laptop with the same installed software performs much faster with the 7200 RPM drive compared to the older slower drive. The boot time with the 7200 RPM is less. I am happy with this drive and wish I can find another one, possibly higher capacity. My decision to buy such a drive was based on past experience with lower capacity 7200 RPM drive. I am delighted with the purchase of this drive. Mort
