Solid performer
Both reliability and speed are top notch, have to recommend for anyone needing SAS on their servers, with normal firmware that works in many applications.

Slow performance, not recommended, be careful, read my review!
I have to clarify that the disks I bought may seem to be a Seagate ST33000650SS, but in fact they have the Hewlett Packard HP05 firmware, so they are recognized by the system as a HP 3TB SAS 7.2K 3.5in DP MDL HDD (part no 625031-B21). I also happen to have many Seagate Constellation ST33000650SS with Seagate firmware. The HP firmware drives compared to the Seagate firmware drives are acting as two completely different drives. The HP firmware is making the drive perform extremely slow, like an IDE drive or even worse. Still HP gives no news about firmware upgrades (the initial version is the final - HP05). The Seagate firmware is also the initial version and there are no news about upgrades until now (7 December 2011), but it performs quite well. When I mean "well", I mean simply well, nothing extraordinary. The 3-year old SATA 1TB Western Digital Raid Edition 3 (RE3) perform better than these last generation SAS6G brand new drives. So don't expect too much. I still try to find a firmware from Seagate to test it to the HP drives (I know that I will lose the ridiculous HP 1-year warranty but I don't care - beware of the HP re-branded drives!). I also hope that if Seagate issues a new firmware version, it may fix the drive's medium performance. If you check on the internet you will see that the same drive in SATA version performs quite well, but unfortunately the SAS version is quite slow. I also have to say that I had one disk off during my stress tests (Seagate firmware), but probably it's a matter of bad luck. It's a pity for such an expensive and high end drive to have such slow performance. Please have in mind that I have tested these drives with 3ware raid controllers and HP P2000 storage arrays. Same performance everywhere. Definitely NOT recommended!Read full review
