About this product
Product Description
- Product DescriptionSamsung's Solid State Drives (SSDs) are light, rugged and reliable MLC NAND flash-based PC storage devices, available in a range of sizes and densities. After being qualified by several top-tier PC suppliers, Samsung SSDs have become widely chosen solid-state drives, currently offered in a variety of notebook and other portable PCs. In addition to the drives' outstanding quality, OEMs are attracted by superior performance and special features like self encryption for greater security. Samsung's SSDs are ideal for traveling professionals, on-the-go students and others. SSDs use significantly less power - about 0.26 watts in operational mode and 0.15 watts in standby mode, which gives users up to 10% more battery life. In addition, the SSDs weigh 25% less than most HDDs, which further improve portability.

Thus it eliminates spin-up time, seek time and rotational latency while delivering sustained high-speed data transfers. The SSD's lack of moving parts makes it noise free and its ultra-low power consumption virtually eliminates heat emissions. One of the Samsung SSD's special features is hardware-based self encryption to protect confidential data from unauthorized access. This security capability is TCG Opal compliant and uses the 128-bit advanced encryption standard, which has been approved and adopted by the government. Compared to currently available software-based disk encryption, Samsung's approach offers faster performance, better security and an “always on” feature. Encryption keys and access credentials stay within the drive hardware rather than being stored in software, increasing security and simplifying management.

Good product
I replaced the HDD with this SSD on my HP Elitebook 2540P. I then bought a Hard Drive caddy, stuck the HDD into it and slipped it into the CD drive bay. So far it has been good. The laptop boots and runs faster and I upgraded the disk space!

Save your money and get a better model.
This might work OK for Windows XP but it's pretty useless for Win7 since it's slow for an SSD and doesn't support TRIM. It has a lot of problems, first off is the sub-minature size. It won't fit most laptops unless they are designed for a 1.8" drive. It's connectors are too small for normal SATA connectors so you have to buy an adapter. Also there's no way to mount it unless you buy a housing to put it in and they are expensive. It can't seem to be updated to have TRIM for Win7 either. In lots of forums there is much discussion about this with many owners of HP and Dell laptops wanting to know how to update the firmware but few answers. Samsung was never good about providing updates and this is no exception. I tried a Samsung program called the SSD Magician that is supposed to be able to update and optimize drives performance but it says this is not a Samsung drive! I also tried an update for Samsung SSD's from Dell but that wouldn't do it either. The drive says Samsung on the label but they don't seem to know about making it. Maybe it's a Chinese knock-off or something, I don't know. Read full review

Small but fast.
Not the largest drive but work's really fast, boot time is much faster the drive just seems snapper. Good for OS drive if you have another drive for storage. 1.8" drive are hard to find and this one is not the cheapest but in this format it is (in my opinion) one of the best.

Excellent, needs AHCI for maximum performance
Great item. Just a note: to get the maximum throughput your Bios should have AHCI option enabled, and so the Operating System (mine didn't) otherwise average rate is ~100Mb read /50Mb write, what is a lot better than normal disks anyway
