I was able to turn in my clunky, heavy laptop because I have a lightweight, faster machine with longer battery life. No annoying Windows updates. "A Tablet with A Keyboard and No Touch Screen"
I heard someone describe a Chromebook as a "tablet with a keyboard and no touch screen". The person was correct. The functionality of the operating system is basically the chrome browser. Everything is done in the browser and is Wi-Fi dependent, meaning you will need to be online to do anything. It is not necessarily a bad thing, considering most people have Wi-FI at home and it is available in most public places. You can get a 3G model as well. This model of the Chromebook does not have 3G. 1.7 GHz (Samsung Exynos 5 Dual) dual core ARM processor handles most tasks well. 2GB RAM is a bit disappointing, but does not seem to hinder the performance too much. You cannot upgrade the RAM or SSD; they are soldered to the motherboard. Chrome OS is secure and moderately quick to respond. You can also install an ARM version of Ubuntu (12.04 only) if you would like. 11.6" LED screen is bright and view-able at most angles. It also has an HDMI port for viewing on an external monitor / TV. It has (1) USB 3.0 and (1) USB 2.0 slot, which is needed for additional storage as the SSD is only 16GB. Battery life is dependent on what you are doing, but generally lasts between 6 - 8 hours. Overall, it is as the title suggests. If you are looking for a lightweight laptop for internet browsing (through Chrome browser only) and light productivity, work through Google Docs and other Google apps, then this will suit you quite well. But if you are looking for a PC/Mac replacement laptop and are mostly familiar with each respective OS architecture, then this will not be the laptop for you. Read full review
