Wasn't sure when before buying this lens, but now very pleased with performance for dollars - if you need to capture big areas quickly, this lens is great. Awesome angle of capture - 180 degree view is extremely handy for photographing indoors such as when doing building inspections for capturing general area. Landscapes become simple as once you focus this lens, its depth of field is so big, you nearly never need to refocus. Items closer than 10m from you, the fish eye effect gets them severely bent. Good if you want this effect but still great for panoramic landscape pictures without 'globing the world'. Heavy for size (~410g), as has lots of glass, but physically compact (really intended for APS-C format). Physically smaller than my 18-35mm full-frame lens, but about 100g heavier. Hood is not removable, care needed not to mark the front lens glass as can't use filters. Tail cap, special lens cap and soft bag included. Soft bag handy, but probably good to have a tougher case if you carry your lenses with you. Tail and lens caps feel cheap, but lens itself moves quite nicely and seems good quality. Pentax version of this lens only needs to have the focal depth defined on power-up (select once, remembers setting, hit shutter to accept) and leaving the lens aperture setting in A (auto) and the camera in Green (automatic everything) seems to work fine; I haven't found a need to adjust anything. Massive capture angle and depth of field, with a degree of auto setting (on Pentax K7) - very difficult to 'miss a shot'. Colour seems good, though easy to get minor sun flare, which seems extremely well controlled compared to my 18-35mm lens. A Zoom would be handy, but that would just compromise performance. Less weight would be good for portability, but isn't horribly heavy. This super-wide angle fish eye lens is great for capturing a big area to show relation of things, very good price for what you get and a performance I'm definitely happy with. I'd buy this lens again.Read full review
I use this lens more for fun than anything else. I was impressed with the build quality. Of course it is a manual lens so accept that but on my k5 it does work well in av or manual modes. I have been keeping it on f8 and set about three feet. Its generous depth makes most everything focused or adjust if need be. It is a rectangular fisheye not the circular but it grabs the scene pretty much in one eighty and very sharp if you do your part. Happy I bought it, well worth the money for me.
This lens makes for some interesting shots. The center is tack sharp and the fish-eye distortion can make for an interesting framing device.
