I ordered the wrong book and sent a question about returing it and never got a answer. The book does not falow the lesson in the ground school class.
I am taking ground school and wanted the book to use in class. The book I have does not go by the class program and I would like to return it. James R. Ropp

One of the best I've read
I would agree that the above reviews do land it right on the numbers. I have read just about everything out there regarding basic Private Pilot training and this IS a great book. Yep, it does seem pretty thick and the author does actually write in a funny style and yep I thought that this book could be smaller and more to the point, but then I remember I paid money for it, so why wish that it was smaller. The bigger the better. Flying info, comedy, diagrams, etc... Yeah, I wish I could read 3 pages and know all that there is to know about flying, but that is not reality. You keep learning throughout your lifetime so a couple of extra pages that actually make it fun to read verses an FAA regulation manual sounds real good to me. I highly recommend this book.
Terrific for Begiinner Pilots
Having myself spent three years as an Air Force Instructor pilot, I trained the "top sticks" in every class. Part of my teaching technique was to use memorable terms, stories and "visual" aids. Rod does a terrific job in bringing to life piloting basics to what could otherwise be dry and confusing content. This book would serve only as a refresher for established pilots.
Worth buying for the beginning pilot.
Rod Machado does a great job at walking through every step of knowledge that is needed for the privot pilot certificate seeker. He starts with the basics and makes his way through everything in great detail. The 500+ pages seems like a tough bit of reading but Rod uses humor and comparisons to make the subject thouroughly understandable. I'm a beginning pilot and I know that this book has made me aware of the basics of becoming a pilot.
Rod Machado's Private Pilot Handbook
The book was suggested by a flight instructor; that's why it was bought. I have only read the first three chapters and it's terrible. There is way too much sillyness in it and way too many dumb antics. The whole book could be 2/3 the size if this was omitted. I would not recommend this to anyone who wants to just read and understand. Sorry, but I am unimpressed.
