I started going to Radio City Music Hall as a boy around 1950, and have been there many times. The Christmas and Easter extravaganzas are spectacular. This hall is a monument of the art-deco 1930s. The theater seats almost 6,000 people. It remains gorgeous inside. The Wurlitzer pipe organ is amongst the largest in the world. It is NOT a church organ, it is a theater organ, and has sounds that no church organ has. I wish I were competent to describe the stage, which is historical in itself. A large portions of the stage is on hydraulic lifts. The stage can be lifted to high that two or three floors of performers can be in front of the audience. The stage can be lowered to underneath the main stage, and arise on top of the orhestra pit. It is an amazing piece of equipment. Then, of course, there are the world-famous Rockettes. I need say very little which has not already been said about these smart stepping, heel tapping, precision dancing beauties. It is always - always very exciting to see these 36 gorgeous women in a line doing their exhilarating dancing. I watched this program on PBS in the last few days, and immediately purchased this DVD. This program is as exciting as ever, and I know it will be well received anywhere, any time, especially on a new high definition TV.Read full review
God where to start with this. I have been going to Radio City Music Hall with my Aunt and Uncle since I was 10 years old. When I moved to the Jersey shore I learned to take the bus to New York to Radio City. I stood on lines at Christmas time when they had a movie and the stage show in the snow for Disney's Pete's Dragon. Now since that they switched over to just the stage show I have been going every year since then and never ever missed the Magnificent Christmas Show. I am 56 now and I take different people with me every year to see it with us and my partner Carmine. I bought the DVD when it first came out and I can't wait till Christmas time to watch it over and over again. It's a joy to have in your home to watch it with your significent other, your wife or whomever you care about. The show changes a little every year. This year they put in a new 3D number with the Rockettes and we got our ticket for December 11th 2011 right in the center orchestra and we are taking 2 of my dearest friends Liz and her husband. But buy the DVD it is totally worth it. It will warm your heart up at Christmas and put a smile on your face. Anthony Staten Island New YorkRead full review
If you are unable to visit New York City during The Holidays , This Radio City Christmas Spectacular DVD IS The Next Best Thing ! I purchased 3 of these DVD's so my 88 year young Mom could share memories of an earlier time with lifelong girlfriends in New Mexico and Florida . During WWII , these ladies would ride crowded passenger trains from upstate NY for a 200 mile weekend trip to NYC . The stories they tell about their adventures will live on with the grandchildren in family oral history :) You parents and grandparents who are always looking for ways to keep the children entertained at home , or when they come for a visit , BUY THIS DVD . This is delightful Family Entertainment that will keep everyone's attention during the presentation . If you are single , and facing a lonely season , this DVD will lighten your mood and is the perfect " dessert " for after dinner . Don't Stay Home Without It . I have seen this great "live" production on Broadway. It is as if you are sitting in the audience with all the kids grinning and laughing together. Couldn't make it this year, so.. this is the next best thing. I have a big screen TV, so all of us got around it Christmas Evening. A young viewer mentioned they thought it had a bit too much dancing. She was drowned out by those that quickly said that is what the show is all about...the Rockettes..! And indeed it is about the Rockettes! From the many special production numbers of a bus tour of Times Square, to the most popular and favorite Rockettes Toy Soldiers dance with the famous cannon shooting down those brightly costumed figures. Santa is everywhere. And the Nativity scene with real animals closes the show with a lump in your throat. Photography is excellent. This is a great DVD, for the holidays or anytime to own and view!Read full review
I bought this because I used to live on Long Island and used to see the Christmas Spectacular when we took class trips as a child many moons ago. I saw them last year with my 4 year old grand daughter when they came to Jacksonville FL. She of course loved it too. They didn't come to Jacksonville this year :( So I thought this would be the closest thing and OMG I loved it! My husband a natural born native of GA and he even enjoyed it too! He doesn't like musicals but I'm so glad he enjoyed this one. He is ready to go next year if they come our way! It brought back so many memories!
