I had seen the ads in Entertainment Weekly for BBCAm...erica's new series Primeval when they first came out, but actually never searched out & watched the show. One day while trolling through Ebay, I ran across the 1st 2 seasons on DVD at a reasonable price so I took a chance. I burned through all 4 discs in about 3 days! It was quite entertaining! The series is a bout 'anomalies' that appear all around Great Britain. These are gateways to the past & also the future. these all seem to lead to prehistoric worlds or a future where apparently man no longer exists because the realms are filled with monsters! In fact, the whole theme of the show is that man is no longer at the top of the food chain, but now just a piece in the lower end. Yes, all these creatures eat people! To battle these beasts & to try to get to the bottom of what causes these anomalies is an odd band featuring Professor Nick Cutter (an evolutionary zoologist), his friend & protege Stephen Hart, an odd nerdy would be student Connor Temple (Who is also a SciFi buff & conspiracy theorist) & Zoologist & lizard expert Abby Maitland. To watch over this merry band is young inexperienced Home Office official Claudia Brown & all are under the heavy thumb of senior Home Office official Sir James Lester, who is more concerned with covering up the goings on than solving the mystery of the anomalies. The antagonist to this group, as if all the monsters weren't enough, is Cutter's wife & colleague Helen who disappeared 8 years prior & has long been thought of as dead. She slowly works her way back & is a decidedly different woman than Cutter remembered her. Each episode deals basically with a particular new creature arriving via the anomalies into our world. They are everything from dinosaurs to enormous insects to futuristic bats & seals to mammoths to gigantic worms. All are pretty decent CGI with some real props melded in when need be for interaction with the real people. There is some gore shown, but it is mostly implied or off screen. The situations are well thought out & the characters are entertaining. The plots do offer quite a few twists & turns, some leave you scratching your head while others are really very good! This is a British show set in Britain, but it is not too British as some are making it not too difficult to follow along despite cultural differences. I can highly recommend this series! I do warn that the DVD is for seasons 1 & 2 & that you don't get much bang for your buck. Season 1 is only 6 episodes including the extended 1st episode, while season 2 is only 7 episodes so shop wisely & get the best price possible!
I initially saw this series on TV. My sweetie and I b...oth like Sci-Fi so I purchased this for a xmas present for him. The cast is excellent and the subplots are interesting and help to support the main story. The special effects are well executed. If you enjoy Sci-Fi, you will enjoy this DVD. Due to the content, small children may be scared if they dont do well with dinosaurs swallowing people. But for 12 and up, its a good family video. I hope whomever purchases this video they enjoy it as much as we did.
It's a go...od series, and goos condition. Thank you.

What happens when time begins to break down and crea...tures from the past and future begin spilling through them? Mastadon on the freeway? Prehistoric sea loins in the sewers? Pteradactyl paranoia? Who are you going to call? Fortunately for you a band of diverse investigators came upon the first annomaly and cemented thier status as 'experts' with the local military - or else we wouldnt have Primeval. Funny, scary, sassy, cruel and occasionally sweet. Primeval first appeared on BBC America and after catching just a few episodes I was hooked. I knew I nneded the DVD's becuase seeing them once just wasnt enough. And, by the way - the graphics are STUNNING! The dinosaurs are better than any Jurrasic Attempts I've seen at CGI in the past. You get the impression you're looking at the real deal. If this even 'sounds interesting' to you then but it and Primeval will pick up the slack. Any fan of the genre will love it!
We loved this DVD set. I bought them because I like movie...s about prehistoric animals and the prehistoric era. I also love science fiction, which this BBC series presents. I bought this DVD set because it was being sold at a great price. The acting and special effects were great. I would recommended the Primeval BBC series to anyone who enjoys science fiction and the prehistoric era mixed in with todays world. Only bad feature I did notice was the sound when the actors were speaking was somewhat low and difficult to make out what the British actors were saying due to the low volume and their accent. Otherwise, my husband and I really enjoyed this BBC series of DVDs.
