It is a reliable little work horse, that I always have with me. But the fact that is is always fixed forward does lead to some blown out shots. I usually use a cloth diffuser over it yo soften the flash. I like bounce flash, which is not in this units wheel house. If you use it in Pentax's TTL mode, with a matching lens capable of it, the flash unit does do its job admirably.

IT is exactly what it is intended to be. A great value priced Pentax P-TTL compatible flash. It's position does not adjust upward, but it does have an integrated flip down diffuser. It seems battery efficient, strong, and responds to control input as expected and labeled. Bottom line, excellent value priced flash. No bells, no whistles, priced to sell. Good improvement over the built in camera flash on my Pentax K50. Well worth the money. Not the final word in flashes for the camera, nor my final purchase, but an excellent value addition to my kit. Can be used as an additional flash with a remote hot shoe as long as the camera mounted auxiliary flash unit is compatible with P-TTL flash controls, but not with the built in camera flash.

I will buy one more and then buy a good master and a slave unit. It only has a few settings and after using it for close-up work and some fill flash and portrait work it does what a reliable flash should. However it doesn't recycle very quickly using alkaline batteries. I will be getting some new NMH or some kind of rechargeable double A's.

There is a newer model with almost the same specifications but smaller and that can bounce. For this reason, you can find this old model in a very attractive new price. If you do not need to bounce your flash, this one is a very smart option. Just be sure to look for a fare discount price... If you need to bounce, or the price is not right, than go to the newer (and more expensive) model.

I recently switched from film to digital and was needing a P-ttl flash to replace the ones I had used for film. I am very happy with the results so far. The adjustment for exposure on the back works well. I do miss not having the ability to swivel or tilt the head for bounce photography. Will most likely upgrade in the future, but for now, great price and very user freindly.
