OK Low-price combo recorder with Digital Tuner
Of note to anyone buying these, they are about 2 years old and are more than likely all Refurbished units. Pros: - The digital tuner locks on stations fairly well, better than the set-top tuner I was using. It does feature a signal strength meter though it seems to declare a better signal than it really is getting. - Recording from a Digital Station to a DVD produced a nice, clear copy. - The amount of time remaining on a DVD is displayed on the unit so you know if the disc has enough space for the next program. If you have multiple scheduled recordings, it will indicate whether there is a problem. Cons: - You cannot record off a Digital station using the VCR side, it will only record Digital stations to the DVD Recorder. This isn't clear via the Programming; only when you try to save it will it simply say "Invalid Entry". - The menus are clunky. Just figuring out what button to push to get to the Setup menu to set the clock/scan stations took a trip through the manual. - The unit is set out of the box to self-set the time from a PBS station. But if it can't find a time signal it doesn't quit trying. I had to unplug it to make it stop, then change the Time setting to manual.Read full review
Great Refurb Deal - Great HDMI Performance
I thought the video resolution upgrade capability would work with cable TV signals but it doesn't. The HDMI port works as designed, puts out a 1080P resolution signal. I bought a Monster HDMI cable, told it would get far better signal quality, but I found later it could not even support a 1080P signal, only 1080i, so the cable purchase was a waste of money. The included HDMI cable worked perfectly with 1080P, connected it to my new Panasonic 50" Plasma TV. Once I realized the Monster HDMI Cable was the reason my Plasma TV could not get a 1080P signal, I used the enclosed HDMI cable and it worked perfectly out of the box. This is a awesome machine. I've only played DVD movies with it, and it does a superb job of translating a basic HD signal from DVD into a 1080P (1920x1080) high res signal so on my Panasonic 50" Plasma, it had the same amazing clarity and color brilliance as the Blue Ray Disc Player. With such vibrant and sharp performance at 1080P from this Panasonic Player (has HDMI port), there is really no need to go out and waste $600 on Blue Ray, anyway you can't get a Blue Ray/VHS combo recorder anyway. It also does burn doublespace DVDs (8.5GB) so it does have some extra storage ability. You can also copy back and forth from DVD and VHS so I'll be converting home movies to DVD to store in the deposit box. It supports EZ Sync with my Panasonic Plasma TV so the 2 units can sync off of the same remote, automatically turning each other on and off so when I turn on the TV, the DVD/VCR also turns on and is live on the HDMI port automatically, turn off the TV and the DVD/VCR turns off. I bought this as a refurb so it was really cheap, but got the extended warranty from Ebay Squaretrade so I have the needed warranty extension over 90 days to 3 years, serviced through Geeksquad at Bestbuy, cost $28 what a deal! I've had this DVD/VCR unit for a month now, really enjoy it, especially with this huge 50" Plasma TV, and my hifi stereo setup. Don't go to theaters anymore for I get a far better movie experience at home than the theater, food is way better too, and the superb performance of my Panasonic DVD/VCR Recorder.Read full review
Panasonic DMR-EZ47VEBS DVD Recorder / VCR Combo
Purchased this in order to record off-air HDTV programs from my existing antenna. Worked great the first week when I tested all functions. The second time I tried to use it was DOA. Contacted Panasonic and went through all means of their testing and still could not get it to work. After much hesitation on their part, because it was a reconditioned unit purchased on Ebay, they finally agree to issue a Return Authorization. This I'm still waiting for. I will think twice before buying recondition electronics on Ebay.
Wow, what an all in one unit. Supurb picture, easy to use, and digital tuner also. This is a great buy. I would rate this is as a must have for any household.
Right out of the box you can tell the quality in this unit. The digital tv tuner is awesome and the ability to record right on to dvd is just cool. I have always been happy with Panasonic and this is no exception.
