I was upgrading from a very introductory or low quality cartridge and while I could tell that there were improvements with things like inner groove distortion, the sound of this cartridge is not for me. In my setup, I tried two different phono stages with this cartridge. With the one, I was experiencing a lot of sibilance distortion and sometimes just high mid distortion. I moved to a different phono stage, the one in my vintage amp, and the distortion in the high mid frequencies went away. Once the distortion wasn't an issue, it became very hard to control the bass frequencies. Instead of feeling solid and anchoring the sound, they were overwhelming and harsh. The emphasis seams to be not on really low end but on mid bass (100-125hz). After listing to it for a little over a week with speakers and headphones, I decided that I just couldn't get passed these quirks and decided to go back to my other cartridge while waiting for a Grado Black to come in.Read full review

This cartridge sounds great. I was replacing the original cartridge on my Stanton turntable, and this one sounds better. It was easy to install. I just printed an alignment template from the web to use when aligning the cartridge.

I used this cartridge and stylus to upgrade my Technics SL-2000. The cartridge attached to my original headshell with no problem and i only needed a very slight adjustment to line up properly. The sound difference between this and the Shure M91 that I replaced is night and day. There is slight low end distortion at high volumes, but that may honestly be my speakers. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking to upgrade an older entry-level to mid-grade t.t.

The Ortofon OM5e is a great cartridge. Because of the reasonable price, many people assume it is an entry level cartridge but in truth it is a cartridge that continues to satisfy for many years in many different tables. It has a well rounded sound with nothing bad that stands out. It tracks well and sounds great. You would need to spend a lot more to hear enough of a difference to justify a more expensive cartridge. If you feel the need to upgrade, you can always upgrade the stylus to an OM10, OM20, OM30 or OM40 stylus for even better performance. In short, for my money, there is no better cartridge in this price range.

I downloaded a phono cartridge alignment tool and had the cartridge installed in 10 minutes. I did have to tweak the terminals since the pins on the cartridge are slightly smaller than the old cartridge
