I upgraded from an unbranded Lumia 520 purchased ...July 2013. This is a good upgrade from that as it has 2x RAM, 2x better processor, 2x better screen. The ATT unlocked LTE version is missing some key bands fir where I live currently, so it spends 99% of time at H+ speeds or below (shown as 4G on this phone software). Only one disappointment is that ATT blocks you from loading a generic ROM onto the phone. The T-Mobile version does allow this. If you could do this, the hardware is actually capable of working on more bands when traveling international. One other slight problem in upper-right corner i see a brighter area and a darker area, so screen backlighting isn't perfect either. Overall, happy with this purchase.

The Lumia 640 LTE has one and... only one thing going for it. You can activate it for an existing AT&T account and keep the bill $30 month for basic phone & text. Otherwise it's almost a contradiction in terms. Smart Phone? It would have been had Bill Gates & Microsoft not written their operating system to favor vendors and only vendors. Being hosted by AT&T, of course, you are STUCK with their mindless self-centered management of the functions so that you cannot prevent spam, you cannot block spam, you cannot prevent them from tracking you and selling your activities to vendors in their statistical summaries. The worst thing about the phone is that it is impossible to customize. When it rings, it rings for about 8-10 seconds and THAT IS IT. You cannot expand the ringing to give yourself time to get to the phone if you have set it down. The phone keeps an almost infinite list of past calls that you cannot clear or delete. And, think about this inconvenience: to answer the phone you have to touch its right side "wake up" button and then press "desktop" and then scroll the screen up to see the call. By that time its rung off. What else can I say? We bought it because it was cheap and the only way we could go to 3G & 4G without paying a fortune for the services. If you can afford an Apple and Verizon, go for it !!

I like windows phones and this one is everythi...ng I expected. Fast screen, numerous app options, easy functioning, lots of custom setting, user friendly, easy to hold, great battery life. Only draw back I have found with the 640 lte is when back is taken off, the battery just falls out, very lose battery fit and I do miss the camera button on the side. Back camera is pretty weak quality, but I'm not a selfie or skype type of guy so no biggy to me. Great phone so far.

Purchased this phone to as an upgrade to my Lumia 520 and wow what a huge difference, in a good way. First off, for $30 shipped, this has got to be one of the best bargains out there! Seriously, $30 for a phone that really should be at least 4 times more expensive is a steal! You should buy one just because! That said, $30 does have it's limitations. But more on that later. Screen. The 720p HD 5" screen compared to the 520's 4" screen is a giant leap forward from the 520. Sure it's "only" 720p HD, but colors are vibrant and bright; images and text are crisp. It makes the 520's 480p screen look...blurry! Size. At 5", this is the ideal size for me. It fits in the hand just right; big enough that text is easy to read, but small enough for one handed operation, thanks in part thin side bezels making this slimmer rather than wider vertically. The phone also feels solid, despite the lack of metal bezels or rings that high end phones sport these days. The phone is also fairly lightweight for its size, which is quite nice. Operation, OS and UI. Operation is buttery smooth; swipes are smooth and without stutter, and apps load quickly. Even apps that take a bit to load do load "smoothly" as well; no abrupt pauses before the app opens. I didn't play any intense games, but apps I've used so far work just fine without issue. The UI is intuitive and easy to learn. The tiles are definitely a nice change from iOS and Android. The phone comes with Windows 8.1 out of the box, but is supposedly on the list to upgrade to Windows 10. One downside to Windows OS...lack of apps compared to iOS and Android. However, most of the "basic" apps are available. Sound. Sound is reasonably loud; the phone only has a single rear facing speaker, but it's loud and clear enough. Music sounds ok...like it's playing from a cellphone speaker. Oh wait...it is! Cameras. The rear camera is actually a decent shooter. It's nice that this phone has a flash, unlike the 520. And the app is easy to use and quick to focus. The front camera is passable at best. Don't expect any flattering selfies, but it'll do. Connectivity. Although it's an ATT Go Phone, I inserted my Straight Talk sim chip that runs on ATT towers and it works just fine--full strength LTE. Bluetooth paired to my BT headphones without issue. Wifi hooked in nicely as well. Storage. Aside from the lack of variety in apps, on-board storage space is one of its major weak points. With 8GB total, only about 5.5GB are available to the user after the OS takes what it needs. And, even though it has expandable storage via micro SD card (good for 128GB), apps install to the on board storage which can quickly diminish the minuscule 5.5GB left, particularly games which tend to be fairly large in size. I'm sure Microsoft could have given this 16GB of starting onboard storage without a significant price increase. But on the plus side, it does have expandable storage via micro SD card, so any videos, pictures, music, and other files you may have won't consume your limited onboard storage. Overall, for $30, this is a deal you can't pass up. Heck, even if you don't use it as a phone, buy it as a mobile music player/video player/websurfer/camera/computer/GPS (the HERE app is awesome!). It even has a built in FM antenna, which many phones costing hundreds of dollars do not have (like my Motorola Nexus 6)! Despite the lack of app variety and limited onboard storage, this phone is by far the best phone for $30, IMHO. Heck, it would still be a deal at $75! Get one...to replace your old phone, have as a backup phone, use as an MP3 player, or simply just because!

I dont know why all people are hating ...windows os, its really good, for comparasion lets take android os or IOS smartphone for that price (I bought 64 for 55$ new), you will find out tha't it launchs everything faster then ios or android smartphone, also main camera is really good at low light, dont look at that 8mp mark, its only number, i compared it to my lumia 925-iphone5c-xperia Z1, and found thhat in low light its the same as 925, and takes better bictures than both iphone 5c and xperia Z1... I bought this phone for my sister, and she really likes it, I also bought one for my friend, and he anjois is as much as idk what... he had iphone 4S and Galaxy S3 in past, and says that lumia 640 is the best one from them.... so i will recommend it to everyone who wants good realible phone, good battery life, durability, stability, quality !
