My wife was using a Fuji point and shoot, and I have a Nikon D5200. This camera shoots RAW images and uses the same battery pack as my D5200, so we can share and use the same software to develop the images. It uses an SD memory card for easy transfer of files. This camera does simple point and shoot with a number of automatic modes to provide special effects. It also allows you to take over and control the exposure yourself for more advanced photography. I think it will be a great camera for her to learn on.

1.complicated menu somewhat difficult to remember. 2.Updates available to software from Nikon are virtually impossible to install. 3.Quality of the images is good. 4.The zoom feature works nicely.

Got this because my previous point and shoot broke and I never go anywhere without a camera of some kind. This one was advertised to shoot in RAW, and that captured my attention, as I always like to do my own processing. Pros: Very nice features. Lots of versatility. Wide range of ISOs available. Auto focus works well. For all the features, it is fairly compact. It would be difficult to get it all into a smaller package. Tilt monitor is really nice. Cons: Higher noise in the pictures than I expected. Lots of lag from shot to shot, probably due to a small buffer. Doesn't matter what quality SD you're using, it's just slow. Heavy, too, for a semi-point and shoot. Need very low ISO and lots of light to get a low-noise picture. Haven't tried the flash boot, but the built-in flash works well as built-in flashes go. Unfortunately, for the most part, my iPhone camera performs better than this camera in all lighting conditions. It's almost disgusting how good those things are and how the point and shoot cameras just haven't caught up. This would be a very good camera for someone interested in learning about digital photography. They could learn the basics, up through post processing, without actually purchasing a DSLR.Read full review
Picked this used unit up to see what it is about. Was surprised exactly how good it is for the $$$ in the used market. Have paid as much for point&shoot cameras new. This is on par with the Canon G series units, with better zoom thrown in. Photo quality very good, low light use very acceptable, don't think Nikon has ever made a bad lens this no exception. Unit is well built sturdy little heavy as are Canon G's,I use this when like I go to a festal or like, not wanting to lug my DSLR around all day but want better photos than a little point&shoot would give- this is my choice.
I was looking for a smaller camera then my Nikon D7100 for quick shots and this fits the bill perfect. I pulled it out and used it at a unexpected car show and the pictures were great. Weather your a amature or a Pro, you will love this camera, Its got all the adjustments you could ever want. Great value
