Replaced an older Gold Medal 16oz popcorn machine with this one. When I received the new popcorn machine the box was in fairly good condition. Open the box and removed the machine and did a quick visual for any damage. I noticed that the bottom of the machine was a little bent up which caused the machine to sit a little askew. During assembly which was not too bad I also noticed that the tray for the old maids did not fit in the spot for it . Removed the warming tray and had to straighten out some more bent metal. I figured as long as I had it apart I would try and fix the bottom also. It was not very hard to do as the metal is super thin and bends really easy. Once this was all corrected I finished the assembly The only hard part is getting the plastic caps on the top of the machine. I recommend a rubber mallet to assist in this. The instructions that come with the unit are very vague. So once assembled I cleaned the unit throughly and made the first batch of popcorn. I have a bunch of the portion packs for 8 oz kettles so away I went. The fact that they include the pre measured containers for the popcorn and oil is nice. So I was a little skeptical after using the Gold Medal machine for the last 20 years. It was nice and heavy and built for industrial use. I started the new machine up and put my oil in the kettle and added 2 kernels of popcorn. This is always how I tell when the kettle is hot enough. Once they both pop, I opened the lid and pour the rest of the popcorn and flavorcol salt in and close the lid on the kettle. A few minutes later I have a very good batch of popcorn. PROS: Love the way the kettle heats very quickly and does a great job of making popcorn. Love the exhaust fan to help pull the steam out of the machine. So no soggy popcorn. Warming tray is great and keeps the popcorn fresh. Over all the machine looks nice and is very easy to clean. CONS: the machine is not commercial grade like the description says it is. It is way too light to br commercial. The kettle has a bar that stops you from dumping it all the way over to empty it. The metal is very thin and during removal from box I grabbed hold of the machine to lift it and sliced my finger open. I am sure that the kettle will not last more than 5 years and will need to be replaced. OVERALL: I think it is a nice little machine that will work nicely for home use. Making popcorn a couple of times a week it should serve its purpose. It would have been nice if the machine had a little more room on the inside but it is a good machine for the price.Read full review
