I was obsessing over Taylormade RAC M...B TPs but did not want to spend the money. I played a round with a guy who had a set of TRUEs. One look at the design of the back spake volumes to me. It is clear that these two designs have a great deal in common. What I really responded to was the lack of weighting on the top two-thirds of the blade. This in my estimation must allow for resonances and therefor feel and blade responses tot he ball that fully peripheral weighted clubs simply cannot have. I have been playing with blades for a while and I love them but the notion of a little enlargement of the sweet spot while maintaining the forged feel certainly has its allure. I have admitted to my self that I am at the time in life where I need to investigate where the technology gone in the last 20 years. I have been a purist and a snob keeping to my Staff red dot stiff metal shafted blades and old school Taylormade (ca 1990) small headed metal woods. Under my new paradigm I have tried graphite shafts (UST light stiff), Wood Bros blades, an R5 driver, various 3&5 fairway woods, hybrid 1,2&3 irons as well as many different kinds of balls in my shag bag. I reshafted these TRUE irons with Fujikura stiff graphite shafts with an extra inch on each club. At address, there is more surface area to use which is a nice thing. What I find with these irons is that there is a little less feedback when striking the ball in terms of sound and feel. Initially I was dissapointed with this. What I then started noticing that eventhough it FELT and SOUNDED like I had less control when shaping shots with these irons the RESULTS more closely approximated what the shot concept was. I had to reevaluate my process of evaluation of my shots! I really like love these TRUE irons. I am pulling off shots with each club that I have not here-to-for been able to make happen. I also notice about ten yards more distance from each club over my Woods Bros. blades. So eventhough they are past it in the grand scheme of things, these are still wonderful irons and are also a TRUE value when compared to the price of MB TPs.
