The older US made EMC LX200 Classic is a beautifully crafted piece of equipment. Optics are sharp and clear all the way to the edge of field. Even using the Alt Az mount (which is rock solid) I have used it for up to two minute exposures for DSO’s, with clear sharp images taken at prime focus. I use the mount in combination with my PC and this gives me greater flexibility than the older Hand paddle (which is solidly constructed but without a list of catalogue Numbers handy can be difficult to navigate through. The face plate has a number of ports available that allow connection of a guide camera, illuminated reticule eyepieces and electric focuser. Earlier Classics generally run off 18V power supplies but I use a standard deep cycle 12V battery to power my Classic when out in the countryside. The slew rates are marginally slower but affect nothing else. I suspect placing less stress on electronics and gears. Used with 2” quality eyepieces the 8” is a wonderful scope, not to heavy yet solid enough to give almost zero shake when u knock the tripod. Sturdy metal lifting handles help in placing the scope atop its equally sturdy tripod. These are great scopes that usually sell at a fraction of the cost on newer Mexican made Meade LX200’s.Read full review
