Last Exile is one of my favorite anime series. It rem...inds me of an edgier version of Miyazaki's Laputa. It's definitely not for young kids. I'd rate it PG-13 because of violence. There is almost no sexual content, except for some skimpy clothing worn by a couple of the characters in a few scenes. The music is great, and the animation quality is excellent. It has a complex plot, and has no filler or flashback episodes in the entire 26 episode series, which is unheard of these days. Each episode is packed with storyline. The ending does leave some things to your imagination, but it wraps up well enough. I have not listened to the English dub, so I can't comment on that, but I found the original Japanese acting with the English subtitles very enjoyable. They managed to cram all 26 episodes onto 3 DVDs, so the video quality suffers in a few spots, but overall it is surprisingly clean and crisp without a lot of artifacts. Definitely in my top 10 anime series of all time.
This is one of the most enjoyable anime serie...s I've ever seen. Airships, strange technologies, conflict between nations and characters, and steam-powered weaponry... what's not to love? This particular DVD set really captures the essence of the show with its gorgeous character depictions on the Thinpak case covers and the detailed pictures and technical descriptions of Last Exile's airships on the case interiors. The overarching story is the conflict between the nations of Disith and Anatoray, which is overseen by the aloof and mysterious Guild. However, the series very quickly brings the war to a personal level in the story of protagonists Claus and Lavie, a vanship pilot and navigator team. Vanships are the light, fast airships of the realm that resemble pre-WWII aircraft without wings. They take on a vital mission that brings them to the very heart of the war and, over the course of the series, exposes the Guild's true intentions.
This series is sooooo g...ood. I bought it on based on a quick review I found praising it. It is very similar to Laputa: Castle in the Sky which rocked and one of my favorites as well. The characters are so likable. It hurt when this one was over and I pray Gonzo makes a sequel! The setting is so cool. Airplanes and Air ships battling in the skies, fast story. The visual are an amazing blend of CG and anime. The story is really good. If you like Full Metal Panic, Laputa, Cowboy Bebop, or any kind of anime that ties in action, revenge, war, romance, and air ships, then this is for you. I watched the series once in it's entirety and I plan on doing so again very soon. The music is also amazing and I had to buy the soundtrack, I never buy soundtracks if that's an indication of how great it is! The last thing I want to tell you is BUY THIS SERIES NOW!!! You will not be dissapointed, it is that good!
Johnny Young Bosch,a great voice actor.

The Last Exile is from one of Japan's top ...anime creators. This is a high action, adventure, fantasy with retro sky vehicles. Young heroic sky porters go on the mission to deliver a mysterious girl to the battle ship. They become entangled in a war between two countries of incredible and wonderous flying battleships, lots of action and heart felt scenes.
