This is actually the second Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 I am purchasing for a PC build. The CPU is excellent for everyday use and will let you browse the internet, watch HD movies and do all the day to day activities fast and efficiently. The power consumption of the chip is minimum for the size as well. I have also tested the chip in gaming and the performance is remarkable well too. It by no means bottleneck's the Radeon HD 6870 GPU and it performs as intended. I am playing most of the AAA titles in high settings and get respectable FPS numbers. Since the chip has an overclocking reputation as well, I suppose that the power user has a lot of potential to exploit. I highly recommend this chip for the current price on eBay. If you cannot afford the legendary E8600 this is the closer you can get.
I have always wanted to get the biggest and best, on CPU'S, I always thought that more cores the better. Not the story, I have reprogrammed my brain after visiting a family member and he has an E8400 CPU on an Asus M/B and it was smoother than my Q9550 Core 2 Quad. It was not overclocked and cant even imagine if it was, It would just SCREEAAM. I am happy with this product and If I have any more LGA 775 CPU'S I will put a E8400 core 2 duo and clock it to 4.0ghz than the factory 3.0ghz. Been a pleasure, Have a great day, Martin Wilkinson from WA state
I purchased this E8400 cpu chip LGA775 slot compatible. I made sure my motherboard supported the 45nm arhictecture along with 1333 speed. Once the chip came I put a thin layer of artic silver thermal grease on the top metal part.(very important) I then installed it in the pc making sure the 'marked' corner was lined up properly and then clamped it down in the 775 slot. I then put the fan on top, turned back on the PC and presto, I was running a duocore 2 at 3GHz. This chip replaced my old Pentium 4 3.4 HT chip. This chip definitely out performs my old chip and has me running at 3 to 10% cpu usage when running photoshop, visual studio, browsing the web, and playing MP3s..all at the same time. My old chip would max out at 100% when doing to much. This chip has loads of processing power. I didnt overclock it as I dont game any more...however I heard it can be easily over clocked to 4Ghz with stable processing. (as long as the chip has proper cooling.Read full review
i own a CO and a EO stepping of this cpu , i love its bang for your buck approach , core for core it hangs right with my newer fx4100 (actually surpasses that one lol) and it runs neck and neck with my i3 2120 in most applications , its so fun to clock it up a bit and watch it really fly . Oh btw if you pair it with crucial ballistix tactical ram you can utilize pc12800 1600mhz ram and boy does this little powerhouse respond to it better than any processor ive owned. alas its at the end of its life but i'll own several and love tweaking and using them for as long as i have a 775 socket motherboard to do so. Get one even if you wait till 2013 get one its still worth every penny to appreciate.
My grandmother has a dell optiplex system that came with a pentium D and we needed a cheap upgrade as here computer was becoming too slow to use. I installed the processor and BAM, double the performance in benchmarks. She said here computer is now faster and much more usable because of this upgrade. We may be able to get by at least another two years thanks to a $5 upgrade.
