Love This Album's Sound But Is It The Boyz?
I would have been a little hesitant to purchase 'In The Hands Of God' if I hadn’t already been acquainted with the Newsboys’ legendary sound; just because of the fact that there are only 10 songs on the album. I learned that just because there is a lack of quantity on a CD doesn’t mean there is a lack of QUALITY. I realize that most of their CDs have only 10 tracks on them anyway; unlike the limited edition of ‘Go’ (which had 14 tracks), so this is normal. I’ve only been a Newsboys fan since I saw them in concert in early 2007 while they while promoting ‘Go’. Since then I’ve acquired almost all of their CDs. I love the edgier sound found on this album, it’s similar to ‘Take Me To Your Leader’ with a dash or two of ‘Go’ but doesn’t completely sell as the ‘boys’. In other words, it is not a sound you expect from this band. I’m glad Peter was on this one but I’m curious to see where Michael Tait takes the Newsboys (will they still be the ‘boys’ or will they become Tait Band #2?). I bought this CD because I liked what I heard of their flag song on the radio. This is a good album but I wouldn’t say it’s their best work. How can you keep topping previous works after so many years of hits? I’m giving ‘In The Hands Of God’ a 4 out 5 star rating. Here is the list of songs in the order they appear on the CD, my favorites are followed by an *: 1.The Way We Roll*/ 2.No Grave*/ 3.This Is Your Life*/ 4.Glorious*/ 5.In The Hands Of God*/ 6.The Upside*/ 7.My Friend Jesus/ 8.Lead Me To The Cross*/ 9.Dance*/ 10.RSL 1984Read full review
Great Finale by Peter Furler
This, being the last CD with Peter Furler, will be a collector's item. The music is classic Newsboys: punchy rhythms and rocking guitars, with Furler's knack for catchy and sometimes unorthodox lyrics. But all of it brings glory to God! Every track on this CD is a foot-tapping, steering wheel-pounding, sing-along-with-the-radio kind of song! Even my wife, who does not sing out loud, sings along with this CD. I have seen the Newsboys in concert with Michael Tait; he is good, and they are still rocking the house. But Furler will always be "The Frontman" for the Newsboys. This CD is a must-have for any Newsboys fan, or Christian rock lover.
In the Hands of God
I have liked the Newsboys for years and own most of their cd's. Some are more touching and inspiring than others. As usual, this cd has some INCREDIBLE songs! Very inspiring and uplifting. Words are easy to understand and to sing along. Has a bit more of a rock and roll kind of sound as opposed to the ballad sounding songs. But it is by far one of my favorite cd's of theirs to date.
I may be a little biased when it comes to this cd, for I have been a fan of the Newsboys for quite a while. However, I really love the exciting music, talented vocalists, and inspiring messages. This is one is a must-hear.
