I remembered seeing this movie the first time and thinking that it was an unusual movie, and not the usual movie fare offered to people and it was pretty interesting. It was the first time I'd seen Scarlett Johansson. She had a lead. I didn't think she was anything special. Boy, was I wrong. Her friend is played by Thora Birch who I haven't seen in anything else (I think) and Illean Douglas has a small part that I wish had been much bigger. She was great, and it also had Steve Buscemi in it in a major role. He was wonderful too. It's an oddball movie in the way "Napoleon Dynamite" or "American Splendor" were. I enjoyed watching it. I liked "Napolean Dynamite" and "American Splendor" too but not everybody did. As for the DVD, it played fine. I don't remember the buying details, but I think I had to buy it new. There may not have been any used copies available.Read full review
This movie is rather weird and off beat, but can't help to love it. About two teen best friends who judge everyone they come across as usually "geeks or dorks". Enid (Thora Birch) is a very sarcastic, confused teenager who has no clue what she wants to do after graduation. Her best friend Rebecca (Scarlett Johansson) has it all figured out. Until one day, they decide to play a cruel prank on a lonely man they saw in the dating section of the newspaper. Things start to go further when they end up stalking him & soon after, Enid develops feelings for him. Enid & Rebecca's close relationship soon starts to fall & things start to change. But it's a hilarious & quirky film, the story is very well put together. You have to be in the right mood to watch this kind of movie. I know several people who hate this movie, I know more people who love this movie. It's up to you. Definitely NOT for kids. The language is very strong and so is the dialog. Mature audiences only!Read full review
This is an outstanding, "quirky" film about two girls just graduating high school. The fun starts when they look through a local "singles" paper and notice an ad from a man trying to hook up with a women he saw for 3 seconds in an airport. They call him (impersonating this women) and set up a meeting at a local diner.....which eventually leads to some light hearted stalking of this gentleman (played by cult favorite character actor "Steve Busemi"). The movie is shot really tight, everything works and dialog is smooth and seamless. This is a "must see".
The quirky 60's dance video at the film's outset is worth the price, alone. And beyond that, its a short, but very worthwhile journey through the post-High School blues and personality struggles of two likeable best friends who eventually part ways.

Need I say more? Steve Buscemi plays an excellent role as a loner in this movie. These 2 girls who graduate hs seperate as the movie goes on as one of them (Thora Birch) gets involved with Buscemis personal life. Its a must see for the artsy student, not to mention, anyone weird who loves an offbeat movie. Buy it now if you are this type of person.
