The 3D Touch is a super addition to a really great 3D printer. I tried one on my Geeetech PRUSA I3C Dual Head Printer and it has proved to be a great enhancement to the system. The levelling of the printer table requires careful setting up to ensure that the table is exactly level which greatly improves print accuracy and takes some time to complete. This has to be checked each time the table is handled or maintenance is carried out. By adding the 3D Touch and connecting in place of the Z axis stop port, plus a small change to the code the tedious levelling procedure becomes an automatic process at the start of each print job and takes just seconds to complete. The 3d Touch effectively maps the table surface errors and applies any error corrections as printing takes place.

I used the Geeetech ABL sensor just as you would the BL touch on my Ender 3. I have the SRK mini 3 board and it has a slot to put it directly into. If you get this, make sure you buy an extension cable as fiddling with DuPont connectors is a pain. I took off one star for the lack of instruction from Geeetech. I printed an adjustable mount from Thingyverse which worked well. I had to adjust mine a little in the end but it could have been done with the Z-height adjustment. After I got it installed and downloaded the pre-made firmware.bin for my board (SRK mini e3), I had to adjust the z-offset to get it doing the leveling routine properly. Once I did that, I added code to Cura's start g-code to do the automatic bed leveling at the start of the run. It took me about 4 hours to get it all installed and working. This really should have come with the extension cable. I used a CAT 5 patch cable to extend the connectors to reach the board. I just cut the connectors off and spliced them onto the end of the CAT 5 with solder. The end results are fantastic. I makes a huge difference to the print quality. I printed CHEPs bed leveling test pattern and it came out perfect.Read full review
