simple interface. Easy to use. Low cost.
I bought this because I did not want a touch screen hiking handheld GPS because of the high price. I may try a touch screen in the future if The prices go lower. But this GPS is easy to use and is cheap and features a color screen. I like that it is simple to use. It is easily recalibrated in the calibration section. All you need to do is recalibrate the compass and your location will be found by the satalites. It can also be calibrated in other ways too. The better you calibrate the GPS the more accurate it is. I mark way points where I plant crops and where I find mushrooms and wild forage plants. This does the job well. I also plan on using it for a long hike but I want to make sure I know how to use it to navigate very well. So far it navigates well. I think it will work fine. It tracks your path so you can easily find your way back. There is a geocaching section on it so if you are into that you can do that. It's ok not the funnest sport but it's fun enough for a hike with a goal. Kind of like a scavenger hunt hike. The rocker wheel is a bit tough to get good with but if you have medium size hands you should have no problem getting good with the rocker wheel. The rocker can also work as a directional pad. This GPS can use sd cards! Be sure to download from garmin software to save your data on your computer. The GPS is somewhat water proof but I won't risk submerging it I don't want to break it on accident. But it should work ok in the rain. Overall I think for 100$ price range this is a good GPS but be sure to shop around and make sure you are ok using a rocker wheel.Read full review

Good equipment, the screen in low light.
I buy the equipment for use in jet ski. The menu is great, the interface also. Many features and easy to use, I really liked it. Bad: The display illumination is weak.
This unit is ideal for those individuals, with above average electronic skill, who wish to try Geocaching with gusto. The 400t has a wide range of features which sometimes could be more user friendly but powerful nonetheless. Updating the unit was a breeze until it came time to install the City Navigator NT. I had to abort the first attempt due to time constraints (the download and install was taking over 3 hours, for a 1.04GB file over a T-1 line) my second attempt I just allowed the device to download overnight. In the morning everything was fine. I really like how I can load seperate Geocaches directly onto the device and I look forward to explore all over its' features as I explore the surrounding landscape looking for 'treasure'.
No problems yet
I went in with some concerns having read some old reviews. But Most problems were corrected with updates and this met all my criteria for what i needed in a GPS unit. I immediately updated to the latest firmware version and I have not had ONE problem. My only real problem was my initial confusion as how to fully use it. I read the instructions and it explains all the terms, screens, and usages but its not specific on how to "start",having never owned a gps before. so i spent a few hours on-line,testing it out on the trails and eventually figured out most of what i needed it for which was riding the trails on my ATV. pros: beautifull large screen you can see in the sun easy setup with scroll wheel lightweight/comfortable so many cool options preloaded topo maps cons: no screen protection holder for bike/motorcycle/my ATV is a big Monstrosity no "how to" guide for beginnersRead full review
I like it, still learning to use features
To begin, realize with every capability, there are inherent complexities! I LOVE the ability to increase the light to make it easier to see and use. I LOVE the download feature to get Geo-caching information into the unit. It could include the coded hint, and what would be really helpful is the 2 maps that show on the internet to aid in the location of the area to search. I like the amount of data and information available, but it is a little confusing about how to access all the information. I am still experimenting with navigation and enjoy this new "toy". I also bought the cigarette lighter power source, and in my opinion, this should be part of the package, and not an option for separate purchase. I would like the "GO TO" feature to route via roads, not "As the bird fly’s".
