This is great comedy. There's no better sci-fi than time travel, and how can you miss when you fold that platform into animation? The weak part is the episode presentation. Everything is clear, but there is sometimes just a black screen for a while, at the end of a given show. Other series--e.g., House, MD--make for an easy switch from one episode to another. But even with that flaw, I'd buy this one again.

Futurama is an excellent show with wonderful characters, exciting stories and hilarious jokes! If you like sci-fi, you'll love this show. Not only funny, but very clever...lots of "in jokes", especially making fun of other science fiction characters and ideas. Of course, buying any DVD season set is a great idea. All episodes are perfect quality, no commercials, and all in their correct running order. Really, it is the only way to watch these shows. I am spoiled now, and dislike watching regular TV and prefer to get the DVD set. As for the DVD set itself...it is awesome! EVERY episode has a full length audio commentary by various members of the writing staff, producers, and voice talent. They tells you secrets of the episodes, funny stories and just goof around. I watch the DVDs for the commentaries as much for the shows themselves! Also, you get other extras such as storyboards for various episodes, how to draw the characters, jokes in the menu screens, etc. If this is the first DVD boxset you have ever bought (like me) you will be spoiled. The DVDs of other shows are lacking terribly compared to all the bonuses you get in this one.Read full review
On New Year's Eve, 1999, Fry, a delivery boy, deliver's a pizza to one I.C. Wiener at a Chrygenics lab. An "accident" sends him into a chryogenic chamber. One thousand years later Fry wakes up to a very different world. Christmas is terrorized by a robot and called Xmas. "Ask" has been replaced by "axe" and Al Gore is the Emporer of the Moon. I would just like to say that Futurama is better than Family Guy in the sense that Family Guy uses a lot of offensive, adult humor (which I laugh at a lot). Yet they end up like a 6 year old kid running around saying **bleep** cute and funny at first, but it gets annoying quickly. Futurama uses the same humor but sparingly enough that it becomes funnier. I would also like to say be careful in purchasing DVDs on ebay, especially anime. There are many *bleep*s out there that sell bootleg copies. I am too inexperienced to give advice to this, but if you go to the reviews and guidelines section of ebay and type anime or bootleg you will find a number of good guides on bootleggers and their products.Read full review
Futurama is (was) Matt Groening's cartoon series that ran for only a few years, unlike his epic "Simpsons". Futurama is just as funny, clever and well drawn, with plenty of cultural references as well as unique creations (its own alien alphabet, for example) It was probably not as successful as The Simpsons because it references a small section of our culture (science fiction), but it still contains all of the iconic elements of Matt Groening's humor. I, or rather, my wife, purchased it for me as a birthday gift so that I could always see some of my favorite episodes and share them with my kids. Like many other television series that have fallen by the wayside, Futurama has many elements that will still be able to be enjoyed many years after the current "hits" are also relegated to the scrapbin. It is a classic cartoon and, in my opinion, should be enjoyed as such. Thanks to Matt and his talented staff of actors, writers and cartoonists for bringing such work into the world. I will always treasure it.Read full review
This set is pretty much the first season with optional commentaries and several deleted/storyboard-style scenes. I have to highly recommend this DVD set for those who love the show, because it's a sure way to watch the show in sequence, given that syndication doesn't always follow the chronological order of the episodes, and by buying it you show that you care enough about Futurama to pay money for it, so maybe we can convince Fox to make some more straight to DVD movies, or even that rumored "sixth" season (fifth season is going to be the DVD movies cut up and edited for Comedy Central). If you are a fan of Futurama, or someone who is a fan of fun, scifi, episodic series, and cartoons, than this is something you should really think about buying.
