This book drives home the fact that it has never been easy to be a Christian, and reminds us God nor Jesus never promised it would be. Like any historical work, its old English sounds stilted to the modern ear, but stick with it, and it will become compellingly understandable. In this contemporary age of renewed Christian persecution, it is comforting to see that we will continue as His people, and can draw comfort from those martyrs who have died for Him. It reminded me how blessed I am to be part of the Church and the Body of Christ. This is a standard sized paperback, which I did not realize when ordering. A monumental work of this stature deserves a larger format or hardback publication, which I will look for to make a permanent addition to my library.

I have not read the whole book yet, but this book makes me realize how fortunate we are as Christians living in the United States, who can freely worship our Lord and Savior. I have so much respect and admiration for the early Christians that died horrible deaths for refusing to denounce their Lord.

Great book! Everyone should read it especially Christians. After reading what our Christian brothers and sisters went through just maybe we will stop complaining so much and get busy telling people about Salvation through Jesus Christ!
