WE bought this book for our 10 year old daughter who LOVES to cook and who LOVES Alton Brown. We have really enjoyed looing at the pictures and recipes in this book. The history is interesting, and the map is cool, too. It is written in the same Tone that AB ususally speaks. So if you don't like AB, you probalby won't like this book. We did not like the Video of Feasting on Asphalt. It was a little dry. But the book you can look at whenever you want to - or not.
This was a 5 star TV series with Alton Brown so the had to be the same and is!

The book is chalked full of recipes that are practical. Alton brown doesn't dissapoint. I have been a fan of his for a few years now and I'm very impressed with practically all his recipes. Not only do they produce a great product, they give detailed instruction on almost every step of the process to bring an understanding to the methods.
In his newest cookbook, Alton Brown samples local food all the way up the Mississippi. This portrait of America is based on traditions and roadside culture of towns all along the way. This is a great companion guide to his Food Network TV show as he treks along sampling beignets, crawfish boils, barbeque and soul food everywhere from diners to hot dog stands to truck stops and more. Some of our favorites are Nana Deane's Pecan Coconut Pie and Fast Eddie's Hot Chick on a Stick, and Fin Inn's Fried Catfish. Alton is the best thing to come off the big river since Huck Finn!
