Nice and portable little printer. Great value for money
Epson Sx445w is a nice little printer. Not that it isn’t fully-featured. Wi-Fi is supported, so you can control the Stylus wire-free, for instance, while a built-in memory card drive lets you browse and print photos without needing to switch on your pc Indeed, you can even hook up your smartphone or tablet by using Epson iPrint. However, the Epson Stylus SX445W isn’t stuffed with endless features. Instead, it focuses on those facilities that’ll really improve the user experience. And it offers these for a very modest price tag, even if there are a few hitches that threaten to derail the Epson. Epson Stylus SX445W remains pretty easy to use. The system is logical, clear and reasonably detailed. And the Back and Home buttons are always present should you want to retrace any of your steps or jump back to the main menu. It may feel a little old-fashioned, but the Epson Stylus SX445W’s control panel is at least effective. When it comes to quality, the Epson Stylus SX445W is very much a mixed bag. Text quality is far from ideal. The obligatory super-fast mode hits a strong figure of 15.8ppm, but the text is so light as to be almost unusable. The middle-order print mode offers much darker output at the solid rate of 5.7ppm, although characters aren’t as crisp as we’d like. Even in a fairly sizeable font, the letters lack total clarity, despite using the setup options to fine-tune the ink. Graphics printing, however, is much better. Ignore the ultra-faint 5.9ppm fast mode, and instead go for the middle 1.8ppm option, and while the speed isn’t particularly competitive, the quality of the prints are good on both normal and photographic paper. The colour palette may be a little too dark for some, but we liked its intensity and found the resulting prints invigorating. The scanning component of the Epson Stylus SX445W suffers from a fairly flimsy lid, and there isn’t as much lift as we’d like, so scanning thick material may be a problem. Nonetheless, the results were generally fairly accurate, with colours reproduced with some fidelity.Read full review
easy to set up, good performance and very cheap to run
i bought this printer because i was looking for one that prints in good quality and more importantly does not cost the earth to run. setting up the wifi on this printer was easily done using just the front control panel and you can also air print using your smartphone, just download the epson printer finder and iprint apps from the play store or the apple app store. photo quality is decent and print speed is average for photos but quick on documents. the ink cartridges are about a tenner for three sets on ebay which means you can print as much as you like and your printer wont become an expensive ornament like most other brands of printer. the paper feeder has auto sizing so it adjusts to 6x4 photo paper printing automatically and printing from memory card cuts out the need for a pc. unfortunately the sx range has been super-seeded by the xp range which are way more expensive to run so grab an sx printer while you still can.Read full review
Cheap to buy but also Excellent.
When I bought this Epson it was old stock and did not come with the original Epson inks so I started off by buying 3 sets of non original inks (4 in a set) for the grand total of £11.98 and free postage so less than a pound each. Manufacturers tell you that you should only use theirs but this is for their own financial gain. As long as you stick to one type of ink and dont keep mixing different makes of ink you will be fine and in next to no time have saved enough money to buy several new printers. Set up for wireless use was fairly straight forward but you can also use a usb cable or a picture card which is less complicated if you wish. You will need to buy a usb cable if you dont have one. Once you're up and running you will find the Epson is really easy to use and you will get fantastic results. I use cheap inks and Glossy paper from Poundland instead of the manufacturers very expensive products and get excellent results. The inks I am using seem to last a long time and give colours so close to original that unless you are an absolute perfectionist you will not notice much if any difference. The scanner also gives excellent results and if you are using it through a Laptop/PC you can set it to restore faded colour and B/W photos during the scan. The Epson is also a Copier so you can use it to copy colour or B/W documents just as though it was a free standing copier with no need to use a PC if you are just feeding the documents or photos into it. If you have a picture card just pop it into the front slot and print off your copies in colour or B/W. No PC required again. Black and White documents and photos are printed very quickly but if you want colour it takes a while or even a long while if you are printing A4 Glossy, but who really cares if you are doing it so cheaply and efficiently. Overall I think this Epson is excellent value for money and can be very cheap to run unless you are an absolute perfectionist who should be buying something else instead really.Read full review
Epson Stylus SX435W,competitively priced good overall wi-fi printer
This printer is to replace an Epson DX4400 which has given good service for a number of years. The plus points are size,wi-fi,competative prices on compatible inks and ease of use. The DX4400 did accept compatible cartridges but as yet I have not had to renew the genuine ones installed in the SX435W. The setting up up of the wi-fi was not as straight forward as I imagined but fortunately was assisted by the seller (purchased on Ebay)to install the wireless. So far printing and photo copying have given good results and pleased with the purchase.
Highly recommended reliably printer with loads of great features
I bought the SX435W not only cause it's a printer but scanner and photo copier too. It's been a while since I actually owed a printer (about 4 years) and wasn't expecting a great deal to be honest but I was very surprised when I started to use the SX, it was easy to set up and very easy to use. The print quality is great too, I bought some 4x6 photo paper and printed out some photo's, from a distant or in a frame you'd be hard pushed to tell it was a photo printed at home unless you looked up close. The print speed is good and the ink seems to be lasting a while. Another great feature is that it's wireless, you don't have to connect anything to it,apart from the power lead obviously, you can send anything to print off your laptop, but best feature of all is the Epson App you can get for your smartphone, this is such a handy thing to have. You can take a picture with you phone and send it straight to your printer. It also comes with card slots which allows you to insert your memory cards and print pictures off them. All in all I would recommend this printer to anyone who's after a good reliably cheap printer ---- Likes:- Cost of printer/ Cheap ink/ Good quality printing/ wireless/ good at scanning/ Can print straight from your memory card/ The smartphone app!/ ---- Dislikes :- NothingRead full review
