This Epiphone Thunderbird IV was listed as used, but arrived as a brand new item. At $278 it is a phenomenal value. The finish is gleaming, it plays, sounds and feels like its Gibson counterpart. The sound and sustain of the Thunderbird are legendary and this version is no exception. No Complaints !!!

While this is my second Epiphone bass, this one is a bit disappointing. It is very eye catching but the style comes with a price: it does not hang well standing no matter what strap type or size I try. Not just neck drop but also the guitar casts away from your body like it is attempting to crash face first into the floor. Was supposed to be inspected and setup when purchased but was not. One tuner was mis-aligned, the bridge was improperly set, and the neck was back-bowed. The “inspected by Epiphone” sticker is a real joke! After a real setup, it plays well and sounds fine but then so do a half dozen other bass guitars I own. Just had to try one and did not want a thru-neck design so the cheaper Epiphone seemed like the choice. Guess I was wrong. I have to wonder if a Gibson would be any better - especially these days with Gibson almost on the rocks as a company.... Buy it to look pretty but do not expect much more than a barely passable bass guitar after you fix the issues it comes with. I would not recommend this for any bass player, even a beginner.Read full review

Plain & simple... this bass is the cat's ass. Great action, VERY minimal adjustment needed, with a sleek and elegant feel. Although I'm usually more of a fan of active EMG pickups, the stock pickups offer a great tone for a wide variety of music styles. The bass style itself is edgy enough to offer s bit of attitude without screaming METAL like, say a Warlock or widow. Glossy smooth neck is way nicer than on my Epi Goth model TBird, and honestly I think the knobs roll smoother as well (although maybe that's due to it being 16 years old). No feet burrs whatsoever, however the corners of the nut could use a quick kiss from a file, which would be my ONLY complaint if I HAD to make one. All in all, great value at a great price.

I bought this as a backup beater bass for practicing at home, but I like it so much that I plan to do some gigs with it. The listing said used, but there was no evidence of that, probably just overstock. The quality is amazing, what you'd expect of a Gibson not an Epiphone. I think Epiphone stepped up their game a lot in recent times having been disappointed with an Epiphone Les Paul in the past. It makes a nice growly tone and the fretboard is well finished with nice low action. The only downsides are, like with any T-Bird, some neck dive due to the fashionable headstock, and the long length makes it slightly awkward and hard to fit into some gig bags. Other than that, it's awesome.

I've been an Epi fan since I bought my first one back in the early '60s, I've owned at least 20 since then, and this one lives up to my expectations. I bought this Thunderbird bass for several reasons - I was looking for a short scale bass since my hands don't stretch like they used to, I've always wanted a Custom Shop instrument, the rare TV Silver color and limited production. It plays like a dream, is well balanced and sounds killer. It takes a little work to find a case for the Thunderbird, but I did and it is nice! If I had the chance to buy this bass again - I don't know...I've owned the Epi Allen Woody bass and it is a short scale total tone machine. Ask me again after I've played this one for a few months.
