My sample of the SPL meter is reliably consistent with itself. It seems to overstate sound level by about ¾ of a dB. Not bad for such an inexpensive device. The thing updates its measurement display too often; its about a 1.5 times a second. If they slow the update rate to about every 2 seconds, it would be more useful. Maybe that could be switch selectable (fast/slow). It is reasonably accurate. At ~$11, it is a solid value for quick measurements where relative level is the main objective.

It has constant sampling, min hold, max hold, three modes for best result. What I use it to measure a quick one shot sound level, set it to max mode, it works! As long as the noise you want to capture is bigger than background sound, it will hold the max sound it captured. Change the mode from max to constant sampling to release the last max hold sound. There is also a hold button, that might for the purpose of holding whatever the value not impacted by other sound any more. Great stuff, must have if you want to measure sound level.
